Chapter 1: Back Again
(Max's POV)
I looked at my clock. 10:30 AM. I'm so bored. I just turned 17 a week ago and I don't know what to do. I looked at my text messages. 203 Unread Messages. Crap. Jenny Michel (A/N totally random name) has been texting me again. I hate how she likes me so much. So annoying. My phone beeped, indicating that I have a text message.
~Text Message~
Unknown Number - Remember Skylar? She's as good as dead! -You Know Who
Me - Shut it Tony! You know Skylar is a sensitive subject!
Unknown Number - BTW this is Herobrine, you idiot.
Me - Don't talk like that!
Unknown Number - Seriously dude. Check your desk. I left you a surprise!
~End of Text Message~
I walked over to my desk. I was a little scared. Wait. What's that? A note? I opened it. It looked no older than a few years. It was that note! The one about Skylar! The one that read: I'M COMING AND SHE'S MY FIRST TARGET! -HEROBRINE. I was so angry that I tore up the note. But as soon as I did, I started to feel very dizzy. And for a second, my bed looked pixelized. Then I blacked out.

My head throbbed. I rubbed it. Looking up, I saw Fred and three other boys I didn't know.
"Hey, dude! Been waiting for ya!" He helped me up and slapped my back jokingly. Then introduced me to the boys standing next to him.
"This is Lance." He said, pointing to a boy with red hair, jeans and a tee-shirt with a skull on it. Even though Fred had red hair, he looked nothing like Lance. "This is Connor," he pointed to a mysterious looking boy with blond hair, jeans and a tee-shirt with a hundred dollar bill. " and that's Jerome." (A/N that is not the Jerome from Team Crafted. Any similarities are pure coincidence.) Jerome was tall, had black hair and a plain navy blue tee-shirt. They all looked about the same age as me and they all wore sneakers. "And that's," Fred started, gesturing to a very large base made from spruce wood, "where we live."
I guess Fred heard me whisper, "Woooooaahh!" because he asked me, "Boys only. You wanna live here too?"
"Definitely!"
"Okay then. I'll show you around." He led me inside, Connor on his tail. "This is Jerome's room." He pointed to an uncomfortable looking room on the bottom floor. "Kitchen, Bathroom." He walked up some stairs. "Connor's room, My room." Connor departed into his room rather quickly. Fred reached the top floor. "And Lance's room," he said through gritted teeth. Probably because Lance's room was on the top floor and had a spectacular view of the ocean.
"Thanks buddy. Hey where do I sleep?" I asked.
"We have a guest room on the second floor. You can have it. We never have any guests."
"Makes sense. This is Minecraft. Thanks though. I'll go set up."
"But it's not like you have any luggage."
"I mean like rearrange things to my liking."
"Okay."
I walked down to the second floor. Here it was. The guest room. I walked in. There was a bed in the corner, and a large chest, a furnace and a crafting table next to it. Bookshelves were lining one side of the wall and a large painting was on the other side. A couch was under the painting. I slumped onto it. Wait a second! Skylar!
I ran out of my room and eventually found Fred.
"Fred!" I panted, "Is Skylar here?"
Fred rolled his eyes. "No." he said. I breathed a sigh of relief. If she was at home, Herobrine couldn't hurt her. But as if on cue, I heard a thump on the ground outside. It sounded like someone had fallen.....I ran to see what, or who, it was.
It was Skylar.
"Hey Max!" She stood up and dusted off her jeans. "I'm glad to be back! Home was really boring. Well, I guess I'd better build a base. See you around."
"Wait! Skylar! You can stay with me." I gestured towards the spruce wood house.
"Of course!" She followed me in and, luckily, Fred didn't see me bring her in. He had said boys only.
"I'll be right back. You stay here. Don't make much noise. I'm going to make you a bed."
"O-okay?" She probably didn't get why she had to be silent, but I'll explain later. I ran to Jerome's room and knocked on the door.
"Do you have any wool?" I asked.
"Sure. What color?"
"Doesn't matter."
"Here's some white wool." He handed me five pieces of white wool.
"Thanks. I'll pay you back." Then I ran off to my room. Skylar was still waiting. I deposited the wood in the chest then ran out again before Skylar could say anything. I ran out the door to collect wood. I saw a tree right away. When I had the wood, I sprinted back into the house, back into my room and crafted a bed. I placed it next to mine.
"Max," Skylar whispered, "why do I have to be quiet?"
"Because it's boys only. I'm sneaking you in."
"Okay."
I looked out the window, which was over my bed, to find that the sun was in the midst of setting. Must be about dinner time. I thought. Just then, I heard a knock on my door. I answered it. It was Lance.
"Fred wanted me to tell you that...." he stopped. Turning around, I saw that Lance's gaze was fixed on Skylar.
"Don't tell Fred about Skylar staying here. If he finds out, he'll kick her out!"
"Don't worry. I won't tell," His gaze was still fixed on Skylar.
"What were you telling me?"
"Oh....uh....Dinner's ready. Since Skylar can't come out, I'll sneak some for her." He looked at Skylar that last part. I walked out and closed the door. Lance and I walked down to the dinner table in the kitchen. Connor and Fred were already seated. Fred served us mushroom soup for dinner and cookies for dessert. When we were done, I watched as Connor said good-night and he and Fred walked back to their rooms. Lance and I were still here. Lance quietly took another bowl and poured some soup into it. He then grabbed the one leftover cookie and scurried toward my room. I followed him. He opened the door and served Skylar the food. She was sitting on the couch and Lance took a seat next to her. He sat very close to her. Too close. Then he whispered something into her ear and Skylar shook her head no. I wonder what he had said. Lance stood up and attempted to steal a kiss on her cheek, but Skylar turned away and shot him a quizzical look. I breathed a sigh of relief and walked into the room. Lance was just leaving.
"Hey Skylar." I said. She was finishing the mushroom soup. Then she ate the cookie.
"Hey Max. Ready for bed?"
"Yep."
"Hold on. I have to put this bowl away." Skylar walked out of the room and returned less than a minute later. "Okay. I'm back. Goodnight." Skylar put the fire out on the torches and I couldn't see anything. Everything was pitch black. I felt Skylar lightly kiss my cheek and whisper "Good-night Max." Then the rustling of blankets and then nothing. I closed my eyes and soon fell asleep.
