Chapter 4
(Skylar's POV)
My eyes fluttered open. I was sitting in a minecart, my head rested on Jerome's shoulder. He looked at me and smiled. His smile was beautiful. His eyes, how they sparkled. And his personality, just perfect. He always knows just what I want to hear.
"Good morning sleepy head!" he said to me. I giggled. He stood up slowly and I took my head off of his shoulder. His perfect shoulder. "Come on Sky! Let's go beat the others to the breakfast table!"
"But it's so far!" I pouted jokingly.
"Come on! I'll carry you!" With that, Jerome scooped me up, holding me bridal style, and walked to the breakfast table in the guy's base. Nobody was there yet. "We should prepare beakfast." he said. "What should we make?"
"Hmm.... Oh! I know! Rotten flesh!" I exclaimed. Joking, again.
"Oky-doky!" He walked over to the chest and lifted the lid. "And spider eyes for the appetizer, I hope?"
"Of course!"
"Of course what?" I heard an unfamiliar voice say behind me. I bolted around. Two boys were standing there. One had blond hair and the other had black hair. The blond wore a white tee-shirt and the other wore a black tee-shirt. They both looked older, because they had sideburns and stubbles. They both wore blue jeans. "I'm Brock." said the blond. "That's Brice."
"Yello!" Brice exclaimed. I waved.
"So.... what are you guys doing here? This is our base." I said.
"Our's too." Brock said.
"You know what? Whatever. I don't care." I turned back to Jerome. "Let's have pumpkin pie for beaky!"
"But the rotten flesh..." he pouted jokingly.
"We'll have flesh for lunch." I smiled and gave him a short kiss. But not short enough.
"What in Notch's name is going on here!?" I heard an almost too familiar voice thunder behind me. I bolted around. Max. "My girlfriend shouldn't be kissing other guys!"
"Max, we weren't kissing, we were preparing breaky! I mean breakfast."
"You're Max's girl?" Jerome whispered to me.
"I'll explain later," I whisper back.
"Where's breakfast then?" Max asked through gritted teeth.
"Right here!" Jerome said, holding up a pumpkin pie. He placed it on the table and started cutting slices.
"You're a life saver!" I whispered to him.
"Anytime!" He whispered back. With that, we all sat at the table. Fred, Max, Lance, Connor, Brian, Brock and Brice. Jerome served everyone and sat down next to me. I was secretly dreading the end of breakfast, because that's when I planned to tell Max something. Something important.
"Max," I said seriously when we had all finished breakfast. "I need to talk to you. Alone."
"Me too." He said just as seriously. We walked into the basement, also known as Brian's room but luckily Brian wasn't here. "Skylar, where the hel* were you yesterday?!"
"If the truth is what you want, Herobrine's castle."
"What!? How? Why? I-I" He obviously didn't know what to say.
"Max. listen to me." I inhaled sharply "I'm not....your.....girlfriend."
"You-you're breaking up with me?" His eyes filled with sadness and tears that he desperately tried to hold back. I felt like a jerk.
"Max, we were never officially a couple and I was never officially your girlfriend." I bit my lip. "But-but I-I hope we can still be.....friends." I looked at my feet. Then I turned around and walked out. I heard Max sobbing quietly behind me. I shouldn't feel this awful, I know, but I do.
"Hey Jerome." I said sadly as I walked into our room.
"Hey Sky. What's wrong?" He patted the seat next to him, gesturing for me to sit there. I sat.
"I told you that I would explain why Max called me his girlfriend, right?"
"Right."
"Well." I hesitated. "I just finished explaining to Max that I'm not his girlfriend."
"And I'm guessing it didn't go well." he said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder comfortingly. I buried my head in his chest.
"Not at all. And he probably hates me now." I whimpered.
"Shh. It's okay. He might be a little angry, sure. But eventually, he'll forgive you. And you two can be friends again." Jerome said quietly and sweetly. I looked up at him and he smiled sweetly at me. Then he kissed me, placing his lips carefully onto mine. "Everything's fine."
"Really?"
"Yes." He kissed me again.
~~~
You know how people say that time flies when you're having fun? Well time also "flies" when you're dreading something. Like how I'm dreading seeing Max at dinner tomorrow. I had managed to aviod seeing him at lunch by telling Jerome to tell the guys that I was out mining. And I had asked Jerome to bring me my dinner, breakfast, lunch and well, just all my meals. He agreed to bring me dinner, breakfast and lunch, but not dinner again. I would have to see Max again.
Jerome sat down next to me.
"What's up Sky?" he asked.
"Not me." I said. He chuckled.
"Cheer up!" he said "Wanna go skating on the snow biome?" I nodded. "Let's go then! We can wear leather armor for warmth and attach an iron ingot to the bottom of some boots so we can skate."
"Okay. I'll find some armor."
"You might have to craft some. Luckily there some cows nearby. You can take a sword from the chest." he said.
"Thanks." I grabbed an iron sword and walked out the door, went through the eating area, and out the front door. Fortunately, nobody was there to see me. I ran to the first cow I saw and slayed it with my sword. It gave me one raw beef and two leather. I killed some more until I had 56 leather, enough to make two full body armor and two extra pairs of boots.
I walked back inside and handed what I had collected to Jerome. We crafted the armor and the skates, then headed to the snow biome. Skating was fun. It was nice to be outside for a bit.
