6: MENTALLY EXHAUSTING CAKE

"I heard you and Kevin had a fight in the hallway"

I sigh burying my head in my Math textbook, "I don't want to talk about it" I mumble.

Kim nudges me, "come on, conditioner should always know what's going on with shampoo"

I turn to the side to shoot her a look, "you're just going to insult him further and say I told you so"

She grins, "Exactly, so tell me!"

Thankfully, the class starts at that moment, stopping my conditioner from bothering me further. By the end of the class, she's already talking about V's latest Instagram post.

I'm in a sour mood for the rest of the day, especially when it turns out I have English with Jax. He tries to catch my eye when I walk into class but I ignore him, promptly dropping my head on the front desk.

During lunch, I sit with my teammates plus Kim and the girls take my mind off the boys for half an hour and then the bell rings and the momentary bliss is gone.

The cherry on the mentally exhausting cake? My last period, gym is with both Jax and Kevin.

We're running today and Kim has the physical prowess of an obese koala so I lag behind with her as she huffs and puffs.

"You're...gonna...have...to...tell...me...sooner...or...later" she heaves next to me and I just roll my eyes.

"I'll tell you later, okay? Just don't die on this track"

"Can't...make...any...promises"

After gym, I tell a passed out Kim what went down between Kevin and me and thankfully, she's too exhausted to put in much of a reaction, but of course, there's the much anticipated, "what a douchebag"

After school, I'm set to go to Kim's house with her and Kiara when Kevin gently hugs me from behind.

Ugh, I hate him right now but I love back hugs.

"Can I help you?"

He places his chin in the crook of my neck, "you can forgive me"

He gently turns me around, "please?"

I try to glare up at him but he's making his stupid brown eyes extra big and cute and now I can't stay mad. "You won't do it again?"

He mock salutes, "Scout's honor"

I roll my eyes, "take me home"

My boyfriend really has the worst taste in music. I'm ready to spill all my secrets as a result of the torture I've gone through at the hands of Kevin and his sexist, misogynistic stereo.

"So," Kevin smirks at me, turning of the engine when he stops in my driveway, "can I come in?"

I bite my lip, "Today's my dad's day off so he's most likely home"

Kevin nods, "okay, sure. I'll come pick you up tomorrow"

I smile, "you better"

I turn to leave but then I stop. Might as well get it over with, "Umm, the Callahans are having a housewarming party on Saturday and I'm going to go"

A muscle ticks in his jaw but to his credit, he doesn't show his annoyance, "am I invited?" he asks.

I exhale in relief, "I'm sure that won't be a problem, I'd love to have you there"

He leans over and kisses me softly, 'I'll be there"

I nod, opening the door, "see you tomorrow"
