I met the boys halfway on Mirkewood.
My fight with Jonathan was still on my mind but I needed to stay focused, for Will.
Lucas, Dustin and I walked behind Eleven and Mike on no longer used train rails in the woods.
I had the feeling that the Wheeler might have had a little crush on Eleven but I would never have dared to say that in front of him. He would most likely have cut my head off.
"What do you think about Eleven, Ems?",Lucas suddenly asked me.
"She seemed so terrified yesterday.",I began to talk. "I know that you don't like her or the situation in general, Lucas, and I know that you just want to protect your friends but what if you were in her shoes? There's clearly something she doesn't tell us but she needs protection. She is running from something or someone so we have to help her."
"Plus; she's basically a jedi. It's always good to have a jedi as a friend.",Dustin added.
I ruffled his hair with a smile. "You're unbelievable, Dust."
It was already dark outside when I recognized the familiar area we were walking in.
I frowned. "This is where Will lives. Why are we here?"
"Hiding.",Eleven simply answered.
"No, no. This is where he lives. He's missing from here. Understand?",Mike tried to explain.
"What are we doing here?",Lucas asked tired.
He was exhausted just like the rest of us."She said he's hiding here.",Mike answered.
"Um...no!",the Sinclair snapped.
"I swear, if we walked all the way out here for nothing-." "That's exactly what we did. I told you she didn't know what the hell she was talking about!",Lucas started to yell.
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "And here we go again."
"Why did you bring us here?",Mike asked.
Eleven stammered.
"Mike, don't waste your time with her.",Lucas said rudely.
"Hey, enough Lucas.",I spoke up.
"We should call the cops. That is actually something we should have done yesterday!",the boy continued.
"We are not calling the cops!",Mike argued annoyed.
I sighed and turned around to Dustin who was looking somewhere.
"Hey guys.",he tried to speak over Lucas and Mike's shouting.
I followed his gaze and stopped breathing for a second.
"GUYS, SHUT UP!",I shouted to get their attention.
Sirens were approaching.
"Will.",Mike whispered and sprinted to his bike.
We quickly followed him and chased after the cars.
We ended up at the quarry and hid behind a truck when some police officer pulled something out of the water.
My breathing stopped.
"It's not Will. It can't be.",Mike tried to encourage us but I sounded like he tried to convince himself not us.
My eyes began to water when I recognized the red vest Will wore on the night he went missing.
I tried to pull the kids away from the scenery but it was too late.
"It's Will. It's really Will.",Lucas muttered.
My heart broke into million pieces and I couldn't stop the tears from falling down.
He was gone. Will Byers was gone.I sniffled.
"Mike...",Eleven tried to reach out for the raven-haired boy.
"Mike? Mike, what?",the boy started to yell.
The girl gasped.
"You were supposed to help us find him alive. You said he was alive. Why did you lie to us?",the boy shouted. "What's wrong with you?"
"Mike.",Eleven softly mumbled.
"What?",he spat.
She just shook her head.
The raven-haired boy didn't wait for an answer. He just ran away.
I sighed. "Mike. Mike! Don't run away. Mike stop!"
But of course he didn't listen.
He just grabbed his bike and rode away.
"Mike!",we all shouted after him until he disappeared in the dark.
I looked at the boys and Eleven.
I didn't know what to say to them.
There was nothing that would've made this easier for them, that would've made them fell better after finding out their best friend is dead.
I sniffed. "Come on, guys. We should all go home."
