Vernon's POV~
I'm so happy! I did a great job finding him and leading him to Gon! Now I'll be rewarded! Via too! Oh, Via'll be so proud of me when she finds out we can get a space upgrade. Then, we can get a larger room. Gon's proud of me too! He patted my back!
It's unfortunate, though. I mean, for Killua. He was quite nice...Oh, well. Via is the only one on my mind. She'll be so proud!
It took some less than kind convincing, but Killua finally agreed to go with us. His eyes were bloodshot and his whole body shook like an earthquake. I guess that's how Via and I were when we first came to stay with Gon.
Killua's POV~
Finishing the birthday song, he cleared his throat and created more space between us. Thank, God.
"Now." He clasped his hands together. "You will be left free."
I exhaled, unknowingly holding my breath before hand. My breath was shaky and my body swayed, unable to stay in place.
"But." He added and my heart sank farther down than the Titanic. "There are conditions. Would you like to hear them, Killua?"
"I- sure." I croaked, shaking.
"Number one, the authorities are to never be contacted. Ever." He stated, harshness in his voice. His cold voice, temperamental and bone chilling. I felt so close to just puking my guts out all over him.
"A-And if I d-don't?" I did my best to sound bold, but stuttering was not helping my case.
"Well, I highly doubt you'll report me but in the off chance you do, I'll...hm. I guess I'd kill Alluka. Y'know? Your sister."
I breath hitched and I no longer felt air passing through my lungs. It felt like fire. If rage was a physical force, this was it. And it was passing through my lungs. Through my heart, mind and soul. My whole body was consumed in rage. I wanted nothing else but to drive one of mother's antique fencing swords through whatever's left of this monster's miniscule heart. I wanted to watch him writhe in pain and in agony as I twisted the blade, cutting his breaths shorter and watching as the trickle of blood left the corners of his mouth. But...that was all unrealistic. I'm standing here before him and he has the upper hand. Even if I had the upper hand, he'd still beat me. I would never hurt someone. I couldn't.
"But, of course, I would never want to harm Alluka!" He added quickly. "She's so sweet. But, necessary precautions must be taken to establish that you won't attempt to contact the authorities."
"Okay. S-Say I follow y-your directions. What then? I-I'm just supposed to b-believe I'm let off the hook?" I pushed through the sentence as best I could.
"Yep! And you will be left off the hook. Left alone for all of eternity and you'll never have to worry about me or any of my friends for the rest of time." He laughed. "Of course, that's if you follow the rules. Otherwise, no."
"No? W-What do you mean by 'no?'"
"I mean, no. Like there'll be great punishment to you and those nearest you." He stated simply, the small friendliness in his eyes flickered away, leaving nothing but pure darkness. Only for a second. Then it returned. I shuddered. "I would hate to hurt you like that, Killua. That'd be so rude. But, seeing as you know the rules, you're free to go."
I stood still, feet planted to the ground, for a while before walking backwards, my gaze still fixed on the two.
"I-I use they/them pronouns. If you wouldn't mind abiding by them, that'd be great!" Vernon waved goodbye sheepishly. I showed no reaction, but if they had been some normal kid I met, I would've smiled and agreed. Of course, friends with a psycho or not, I'm gonna respect their pronouns. What kind of a human being would I be if I didn't?
