Gon's POV~
"Heh...Mhmhmhm." I placed a hand over my mouth, trying not to laugh hysterically. How could I not laugh? I'm over the moon with joy and anticipation. "Oh, Killua~ Looks like I won't be the one to break my promise, now, doesn't it, my love?"
Killua's POV~
I breathed heavily, my hands shaking even worse than before. Kurapika stood expectantly by us, waiting for his question to be answered. Leorio stood just as shocked and scared as I. I was running out of options. Sooner or later, he'd find us and hurt us. I can't have them hurt.
So, my mind in a frenzy, I grabbed Leorio by the wrist and sprinted towards the front door. By this time, Kurapika knew something was seriously off and he chased after us. I swung open the front door, only to be greeted with a loud explosion. Fragments of the car flew across the front yards of Leorio's and the neighbors. I stood uncannily still. The car... Akihiro and Rei...
"Alrighty, we gotta bounce." Rei sprinted over to us, Akihiro close behind them. They're alive. I nodded.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Kurapika yelled. From behind us. "WHAT KINDA SHIT ARE YOU INTO THIS TIME?!"
"Yeah, for sure. Time to go." I breathed, sprinting along with the three others, Kurapika close on our trail.
Sprinting for long distances sure wasn't my thing as I grew tired and slowed down. My knees grew weak and not even adrenaline was keeping me going. I took this chance to slow down Kurapika.
"Killua, I swear to fucking God. You know I don't like you all that much and now your car's exploding right in front of our house?! Explain yourself now, dipshit."
"No." I spoke sternly. "Unlike you, I have their best interest in mind."
"BY GETTING YOUR CAR EXPLODED AND MAKING THEM RUN A FUCKING MARATHON?!" He screamed. "No, I'm contacting the office." He reached in his back pocket before I quickly grabbed his wrist.
"Don't you dare." I threatened in a monotone voice. "I'm in some deep shit right now, Kurapika, and I don't need you interfering and getting people I love killed."
"LEORIO'S MY FIANCE! YOU THINK I DON'T LOVE HIM?! ITS IN MY BEST INTEREST TO KEEP HIM AWAY FROM YOU'RE DANGEROUS FAMILY!" He retaliated.
"Pretty selfish for the CIA, Kurapika." I spoke harshly, Rei turning around and slowing down as they noticed I was no longer running with them. I waved at the three of them to keep going before turning back. "I'm sorry, Kurapika, but as much as you hate me, you're gonna need to let me leave. I'll bring you back your fiance, but remember; he was my friend ling before he ever thought about you in that way. So deal with it."
He stood in place. I could tell he wanted to say something, but he didn't. Or maybe he couldn't. Either way, I'm leaving and I'm keeping them all safe. If it weren't for this certain predicament, I don't think I ever would've said these things.
I furrowed my eyebrows, starting up running again and followed the others as best I could. But I couldn't. My best wasn't enough. I lagged behind them and I wasn't going to catch up anytime soon, my previous PE grades can confirm. I stopped running pulling out my phone and sending Leorio the address to my house along with texting Kalluto to let them in. Then, I took a different route. I had no plans of letting anyone tail me if it meant the safety of my friends.
So, slipping into the less populated side of town, I turned my head every second to be sure and aware of my surroundings. Anyone could be lurking. Could be Vernon, could be any of his other henchmen (if he has any). At the worst, it could be him. I shuddered at the thought, plunging my hands into my pants pockets and picking up my pace as a chill ran down my spine.
The wind whistled through the gaps in the buildings and it terrified me. At any given moment, someone could be right around the corner, waiting for me. Waiting to kill me. So, I braved every corner with caution, sure to peek around before turning around it. After all, what use was I to the family's safety dead?
The sounds of voices shrank and grew more faint as I neared the outskirts of town. I wasn't going home tonight. I couldn't. I wasn't taking that risk. So, braving the unknown of the city's outskirts, I pulled out my phone shakily and typed in the Google web browser 'motels near me.' I quickly typed an extra word, 'cheap motels near me.'
After getting directions to the place, I made my way there and checked out a room. It wasn't high end like most of the hotels I'd stayed at, but it was something. And it was shelter. It was safe. And that's all I needed.
I sat on the edge of the bed, running my hand through my hair. I didn't know what to do; it's 5:45PM, a crazy serial killer is out for me and my family and I can't even check in with them right now.
I shoved away all of my thoughts, setting my phone to its extended battery saver mode and shut it away in the nightstand drawer before closing the curtains and shutting off the lights. I pulled the covers over my head as I lay in the twin sized bed and stare into the darkness underneath the sheets. My breathing sounded louder and my heartbeat was pounding in my ears.
"Mhmhmhmm." I heard a sound, similar to stifled laughter, come from the direction of the wardrobe and it was petrifying.
The sound was followed with the creaking of the wardrobe door as it opened. Then- Thud. Thud. Thud. - there were footsteps, echoing. Then, it stopped. Right in front of where I lay.
I trembled and my breath was shaky. I wanted to scream and run away in cowardice, but I couldn't. I couldn't move nor think nor even breathe with the blankets suffocating me.
A hand was placed on my shoulder and I tensed up, tears rising to my blue eyes.
"Oh, Killua~" His deep, raspy voice rang through my head as I began to hyperventilate. "You broke your promise~"
No. Please. I'm sorry...
I'm going to be honest with y'all. This is by far my favorite chapter. BUT. I almost wrote phone as 'fone' and I feel very very uhm MORONIC AND DUMB FOR THAT LIKE WTF WAS I THINKING- anyway have a good day, I love you <3
