Nyxon nervously lifted his hand to knock on the door. He pauses, taking a deep breath. A woman in her mid-forties with the same color hair and smattering of freckles as Heather opens the door. She smiles warmly at him. "May I help you?"
Nyx rubs the back of his head. "Um, I'm here to see Heather?"
The woman nods her head opening the door wider to let Nyx pass through. "Come on in. I'll go get her for you."
Nyxon gives Heather's mom his most dazzling smile.
"Such a handsome boy," She murmurs to herself as she walks up the stairs.
Nyxon waits downstairs in front of the door. He doesn't intend on staying too long.
When Heather starts coming down the stairs, she freezes, her eyes widen.
"What are you doing here?" She asks, hurt shown in her eyes. A pang goes through Nyx's heart.
"I want to talk to you for a second."
She puts her arms over her chest. "Well, go on." She snaps impatiently.
Nyxon peers at Heather's mom and then back at Heather. "Let's step outside for a bit of privacy?"
Heather rolls her eyes but follows Nyx on the porch. Nyx sits on the porch swing. Heather remains standing, glaring at the former model.
"Get to the point. I'm busy trying to forget your existence." Heather snaps.
Nyx holds up his hands. "Can you please just give me a chance to explain?"
"Explain what? How you used me, made me like you, and then played me for a fool while you had a boyfriend waiting for you at home this entire time?"
"That's only a small portion of the story."
"It's the only portion I need to know. You're a cruel, mean person, Nyxon. I don't ever want to see or hear from you again." Heather turns to go back into the house. Nyx grabs her arm.
"Colt wasn't ready to come out. He's been through a lot, and I didn't want to force him before he was ready."
"Was he ready at Homecoming? Was this some scheme to mess with the popular kids because congratulations it worked. I'm humiliated. I don't even know how I'm going to show my face at school ever again. "
"No, he wasn't ready at Homecoming, but I just forced him to come out because my jealousy got the best of me."
"You know," Heather crosses her arms, "I genuinely liked you and thought that you were a good person. I was seriously mistaken. I hope you and Colt are happy together. I honestly do. Colt is a sweet kid, and he deserves happiness, but you played me. I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive you. I hope you understand."
Heather walks in the house slamming the door shut behind her.
Nyxon returns back home with a long face. Colt walks into their room and shuts the door behind him. Jack walks into the living room from his bedroom and talks one look at Nyxon.
"Rough day?"
"Forgiveness isn't easy to come by no matter how much I apologize. Colt is still ignoring me. Heather said she doesn't know if she'll ever be able to forgive me. I haven't seen JT since homecoming to apologize to him." Nyx lets out a sigh rubbing his face in frustration.
"How did I get myself into this mess?"
"You care deeply for someone that isn't ready to face the world yet. You need to give Colt more time and space. He'll come around." Jack pats Nyx on the knee and gives him an encouraging smile. "Maybe to show him how sorry you are, you take the couch for a night and let him have the room."
