Monday Morning at Coley High School
Names begin being read off over the loudspeaker including Nyxon Steffano and Paxton Decker. "Please report to the principal's office." The class lets out a low "Ohh." As eyes turn to look at Nyxon.
Nyxon rolls his eyes and stands up from his desk. He grabs his bag and heads to the main office.
"Mr. Steffano, you may go in." The receptionist, Mrs. Dickson says. Nyxon nods her at giving her a warm smile.
"Thank you, Mrs. Dickson." She smiles back at him.
"Mr. Steffano, I believe these gentlemen have something to say to you."
Paxton and his group of goons stand with their hands folded in front of them and their eyes focused on the ground. Paxton is the first one to look up at Nyxon.
"We're sorry for jumping you after school. I take full responsibility. I shouldn't have let my personal prejudice get in the way and I hope that you will forgive us."
Nyxon looks at Paxton for a second before nodding.
The principal clears his throat. The rest of the guys mumble, "Sorry."
"You guys can go. Paxton, Nyxon, stay behind for a second."
The rest of the guys walk out of the office, turning to look back at Paxton before walking out of the door.
"Would one of you mind telling me what started this fighting between you? I've seen you guys hanging out together. I thought you were friends?"
Nyxon clears his throat. "It was my fault, Sir. I was making fun of Paxton in the locker room. I was just joking but I took it a little too far. I got what I deserved. I shouldn't have been running my mouth."
Principal Myers looks between the two of them and then finally nods.
"Well, since you owned up to your mistake, I won't punish you. I think the beating you took was a bit of an overkill for simply running your mouth. Please try not to use violence to solve your issues from now on." Principal Myers focuses his eyes on Paxton.
"Yes, sir. Sorry, sir." Paxton says, bowing his head in apology.
Principal Myers nods and makes a gesture for them to leave.
Nyxon and Paxton head out of the office together. Paxton studies Nyxon for a second.
"Why did you take the blame?" Paxton finally asks, ending the silence between them.
Nyx shrugs. "You're already suspended from playing football for two weeks. I didn't want it to affect your life worse. Plus, I did run my mouth."
Paxton claps Nyx on the shoulder. "If it's worth anything, I really am sorry. I'm sorry for misjudging you and making fun of your friend. You're a good guy, Nyx. I hope we can be friends again."
Nyxon smiles at Paxton. "Of course, bud." Nyxon drapes his arm over Paxton's shoulder.
"Why don't you join me for lunch today?" Paxton asks, before they part ways to go to their separate classes.
"Sure, thing."
"And why don't you invite Colt, too?"
Nyxon rubs the back of his neck at the mention of his boyfriend. "Uh, I can offer, but I doubt he'll accept. He doesn't really care too much for you." Paxton nods.
"I can't really blame him. We have been a bit harsh on him."
"Why did you bully him to begin with?"
