Parker had always wondered why she couldn't have fun with friends one day if she had done the same the day before.
'You did that yesterday,' wasn't a good excuse, but it was to her mother.
Apparently that rule still applied.
And if only you could see the terror on her face when she sat up after waking up, realizing that her hearing had completely vanished.
She yanked at her ears, assuming that something was inside them, preventing her from hearing.
The ear plugs that fell out of her ears shocked her more than the now empty spot next to her that Barnacles had laid in no less than a few hours ago.
...
So now, she was stuck, wandering and dragging herself around the halls, praying and hoping that this was all just some weird dream.
That she wasn't alone, sauntering around the halls.
Yet still in her usual attire. No longer in what she had fallen asleep in.
It was still colder than a snowman's ass cheek, so she dragged her blanket around like a cape behind her.
This whole time, for as long as Parker could remember, she had been hoping. Hoping, praying, wishing on every falling star that something would happen. Just something to get the blood flowing, she would say.
Something to get the blood flowing wasn't that supernatural adventure into the woods. Just some simple evidence was enough but no, the cave just had to crumble.
...
Still nothing?
Not a single word?
Usually by now maybe someone would've heard her stamping around, but nope.
No one.
This inner monologue she had going on had her pacing around the same hallway.
Even better, it wasn't even 6 AM yet.
Incredible way to start the day, wasn't it?
But that made her think for a while, and it finally made her put her last few brain cells to work.
Why is everyone gone before 6 AM?
She continued, hoping that this wasn't just some weird dream.
If it was, then she wanted to wake up soon.
Now wait.
Wait a hot damn second.
Someone HAD to be here right?
There's absolutely no way NO ONE isn't here.
Or at least it seemed like no one was here there's no way that I'm going into the HQ without any damn lights on.
There's got to be someone here.
SOMEONE HAD TO BE HERE?
Parker had never thought that the voice in her head could scream, but that thought was proven wrong.
Oh good gracious god what if they just left KNOWING I was still here?
No more thinking for her that morning.
She had checked every hallway, every room, every place that a person could fit in. Parker even checked the fridge in hopes that it was all just some prank.
It was no prank, there wasn't a single ounce of life anywhere.
She clutched the ear buds in her hands, squeezing them until they felt like they would pop, her legs being the only things keeping her up and walking. The motivation to do so had vanished a while ago.
