Hermione had woken up just an hour or two after the green and silver brought her to the infirmary. Mrs. Pomfresh had advised her to be careful and avoid anything that might stress her. She had made a very violent crisis of anguish and her unconscious had decided to disconnect her from reality to protect her from what might happen to her. The young woman had simply nodded knowing that she could not avoid these stressful situations and then went to change in her dormitory before going to the Great Hall for breakfast. It was very early, so she was one of the first to settle down.
Draco Malfoy, on the other hand, had gone to see the nurse to ask how the young woman was going, he had the same information. He wondered what might have caused this extreme reaction. He knew that he had not given her a good image of him, after all he had always been obnoxious with her, but on the one hand he had the intuition that this was not what Hermione's reaction came from. She was already in the Great Hall when he entered, she was going to sit when he picked her up by the wrist to signal her presence. Unconsciously she began to tremble, causing him to withdraw his hand. Trembling a little less she turned to the boy and was surprised to find out that it was him.
"I wanted to know how you were doing this morning.... You weren't very well when I left you in the infirmary at night...
Hermione tried to smile at him, but he could not fail to see how tired she was.
-I'm much better... Thank you for taking care of me...
-It's normal.... No one could have left you like that...
This time the Gryffindor's smile became a little more true, a gentle smile, although thin and uncontrolled.
-It's not trivial that you did it, so thank you...
He didn't show it, but he felt extremely ashamed right now. He had done a lot of horrible things to her and now she was thanking him for the one good thing he had done to her.
-I know it may sound hypocritical of me but...well, if you need to talk about what happened last night, well...
Hermione smiled softly.
-I will come if I need to talk about it... "
Draco nodded and headed for the Slytherin' table. Hermione sat, back in his head thinking about what had just happened. Malfoy and her had a cordial exchange, a first. He had even taken care of her when she was unconscious and was now offering his help. He had changed, she saw it, felt it in her heart. Of course she hadn't forgotten everything that had happened between them in previous years but it was as if this incident was the first step towards something else. Perhaps the first step towards a normal school relationship, without animosity. Ron sat next to her and spoke sharp.
"Why were you talking with Malfoy?
-Good morning Ron...
-Good morning, but what the hell was he doing with you?
-I had a slight problem this morning and he helped me, I just thanked him...
The redhead choked with his bacon.
-Malfoy? Help you ?!
-Yes..."
The silence settled, for once Hermione seemed to be dreaming again, it had not happened for a long time. Her ex-boyfriend, who used to meet her every day, found her calm, she was always calm, but lately it was because she was locked in on herself, that she did not speak. That morning she seemed calm to him in the 'right way', he could not find the exact words to describe it but he felt it as...a little...quiet? He said nothing about what they had just said, but he would have liked to. He was afraid that she would turn around and he didn't want her to become like the night before.
