The rest of the day would probably have been a blast, but after finally explaining what was going on to Colton, and meeting the rest of the Flock, (thats what they call themselves, I'm sure you can figure out why) the energy boost that I had gotten when I had arrived wore off. Immediately, Max, who I assume to be the de facto leader, got us some blankets and found us a place to sleep.
The next time I woke up it was five in the evening, and saying I was hungry would have been a major understatement. So the first place I went was the kitchen.
When I walked into the kitchen it looked, and smelled, like an explosion had gone off.
"Jamie, meet Gazzy. Gazzy meet Jamie." Max strolled into the room fanning smoke away from her face. Her face looked a little bit more than annoyed. Her stare was fixed on a blond kid sitting on the counter holding what looked like a trigger switch.
"Nice to meet you." I think I sounded sarcastic because he raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms.
Poking his head out from behind the counter another blond kid scoffed, "I see we have yet another person in the house that doesn't appreciate the subtle science of explosives."
"You call that subtle?" I think I was starting to annoy this Gazzy kid now.
"Its not about the explosion," Gazzy said, "its about the engineering of the bomb itself. Perfectly placing the right ingredients to make the intended reaction, its really an art."
"Oh, Gazzy! Aren't we eloquent today." Max teased.
"Oh, shut up." He jumped off the counter and went to the source of the explosion, the kitchen table. He picked up a half burnt piece of toast. "Maybe you should have someone who doesn't spend all of his free time building bombs fix the toaster next time."
"Don't kid yourself, you did that on purpose."
"Did I?" he popped the piece of toast in his mouth and walked out of the room.
