The Bird Kid (a Maximum Ride fanfic)

Chapter 4

        Colton and I landed three hours away from the Colorodo border. We were both exsausted. I put my backpack down and went to look for firewood.

         As I walked, I wondered what the girl was taking about when she said "look for an E.". Then it dawned on me. Ever since we had escaped the scientists lab in New York, I would have wierd images in by head. The images were all of the same house, but this house was different. I only saw sides, so I couldent be sure, but on one side there was what looked to be three different wings of the house pointed in the same direction. Like a three pronged fork. It never occured to me how, that from the top the house, it would look like an E. Right?

        I walked back to the clearing we had landed in and saw something thet I never thought I would ever see in real life, a pack of wolves. Being small and alone, Colton was an easy target, but I wasn't about to let them eat my only friend.

        I wispered to Colton.

        "Colton, when I give you the signal, I want you to jump as high as you can and stay up." He stared to look at me then stoped, realizing that would be a dangourous move.

        The wolves were ready to pounce, thank heavens thay hadn't seen me yet. They crept closer and I waited for an opening.

        "Now!" I yelled, and Colton was in the air. I leaped forward, the leader of the pack had stopped, he looked confused. Being part avian I can jump higher, so I used that to my advantage. I landed on top of the leader wolf. He yellped, making him sound like a puppy. The wolves behind him, jumped back and ran away seing that I was a major threat to their lives. The leader, realising that he was no match for me, jumped out from under me and ran away.

        Colton landed, looking stuned, and scared. Then he wiped the emotion from his face, and tried to look brave.

        "I think it's time to go." I said. Even though I didn't want to leave, I knew that the wolf pack might come back and I couldn't risk Colton being hurt.

        "But i'm tired!" He said with a little annoyance in his voice.

        "I know C-boy, i'm tired to, but we can't risk staying here any longer. If there are wolves, there could be more danger out there. Now come on, get your backpack and lets go."
