Today is our Physical Education class or more commonly known as P.E. We're going to have a joint class with Class 1C. Since our gym is quite big, we are able to share classes. Mrs. Johnson, our Physical Education teacher, is demonstrating how to stretch by pairs. Knowing that my height is not the same as that of an average guy, you can say that I am slightly shorter than the rest of my peers and that I would probably be the same as that of a normal height standard for a girl. So while everyone else was busy teaming up with their partners, I will take this chance to pair up with Jenny. This is an opening! I said to myself. However, when I went up to her, she was already with another partner. Drats! I keep on missing chances. When I was about to go find someone else, I found out that I was the only one left without a partner. While it is a fact that our class is composed of an even number; unfortunately for me, one of our classmates was absent today. I then decided to go to Mrs. Johnson to ask what to do when--
"Umm, Mrs. Johnson? I don't have a partner yet." I sped up. Knowing that her voice was familiar, I stood in front of them.
"Oh, are you alone too, Achi? Well then, I think the both of you should partner up since your height is not so different." Thanks for rubbing it in, Mrs. Johnson. Although I must admit, we do have the same height. I looked at her, she was wearing a white t-shirt and black sweatpants with two white stripes on its side before I nodded as if to agree to us being gym partners. She then excitedly took my hand and dragged me to the side near the bleachers where we started stretching right away. I don't think I noticed this before, but Runie really is quite fit. It was easy for her to stretch as if she was made out of bendable straws. She's also able to run fast as I remember her running away instantly when I first met her. I, on the other hand, am slow, underweight with no noticeable muscle anywhere on my body, and is that of a plain ordinary looking joe. I really suck.
After our exercise at the gym, I was beat. I immediately went to the shower room, made sure that I had all the stench out of my body, before returning to our usual meet up place. But oh so predictably, Mr. Perfect is already there to meet with Jenny. When she saw me, she excused herself from Chad to talk to me for a bit. Of course, all she had to say was that she intends to spend time with Chad once again. I reluctantly said okay that made her incredibly giddy. She ran back to him and I just stood there; looking like a fool, waiting for her to notice. As one would expect, she did not notice me at all and they just went on their way to the cafeteria. I then decided to go up to the roof once again.
When I got there, Runie was already waiting for me. How many days has it been since we first had our conversation up here? 10? 15? I don't know. I actually lost count. I've been meeting with her for a while now and we've really been having a lot of fun. Most of the time, we just talk about our experiences and childhood dreams. I even found out that they were planning to live in Seattle once she graduates college. I also found out that the reason she bumped into me the first time we met was because she kicked a jerk in his balls. She's one heck of a girl actually. I'm impressed by her skills and lack of shame. She's no princess that needs saving, that's for sure.
"So tell me, Mr. Soda blue shirt, why'd you fall for her and why did she not choose you?"
"First of all, I already told you not to call me that. Second of all, she's a wonderful person. An individual that came straight from a fairytale. She's smart, kind, friendly..."
"So basically you're saying that she's the complete opposite of you?" She giggled.
"Ha ha very funny. But she is someone admirable. And at the same time, unreachable. I mean...she's the epitome of beauty itself."
"You didn't tell me that you were talking about a Goddess." She said while sarcastically emphasizing the word goddess.
"A goddess, huh? Might actually suit her. But anyway, for your last question...the answer is I don't really know. Or maybe I do know...but I guess I just can't accept it. I mean...I've been gathering up courage for so long that I missed my chance. Besides, I'm no Chad. I'm not athletic, nor am I a genius. I am nowhere as perfect as he is. And...she deserves someone like him. Maybe they are meant for each other..." I held my breath after saying that last sentence. My heart was aching, my eyes were starting to create waterfalls. I clenched my fists, desperately trying to stop myself before I cried. I was about to make a joke when she suddenly gave me a hug...no, it wasn't just a hug. It was a tight embrace. I couldn't stop it. All the pain I've been holding up inside came crashing down like a hurricane. I couldn't breathe. She held onto me tighter as if to ease my pain.
"You really do love her, don't you?" She said while still holding me. I can't even speak, I just nodded as a response. She didn't let go of me. When the bell rang, I slowly removed myself from her warm embrace. She smiled at me and I knew right then and there...that I found myself a person I could cherish for a lifetime.
