"This is the last human," says Death.
"I'll miss them, I think," says Life.
"Me too. Now it's only a matter of time until our end. Just a few bacteria on Earth."
They stood in the cryonics room, looking at the pod containing the human. The low thrum of the machine gave an aire of melancholy and despondence.
"I'm scared, Life. I've seen so many things off to oblivion and scarce thought what it would be like for myself."
"We could always make them immortal," countered Life.
"I tried that once. It still died."
"What do you think it'll be like then?"
"I can only imagine darkness. But I think that's what the humans experience. We weren't born. We won't die. We'll simply stop existing."
"I suppose its like waiting for an executioner. The machine's gonna break eventually. There's no point prolonging this." Life reached out it's arm to turn off the machine.
"No, please. I don't... I don't want to end."
