Evie was tuning out the noise around her as she attempted to wrap up her phone conversation with the guest on the other end of the phone. She'd originally been called upstairs to cover the desk while the receptionists and Theo handled the sudden influx of guests that had typically returned at three o'clock on the dot to get checked in. Only this time half of them were complaining their rooms still weren't ready because the reality was the housekeeping staff were short.
Theo, who currently stood to Evangeline's left, was trying to diffuse what seemed to her to be a pretty hairy situation with an over-expectant guest who'd fully expected to get the bathroom in the picture he'd seen on Booking.com. There were multiple lessons to be learned, but the first one was don't fucking book on Booking.com for a five star establishment when the first thing it says is that the rooms are all fucking different.
She heard him usher the guest into the Drawing Room as she finally dropped her call, and Theo was quick to ask her for her help once the guest was temporarily disposed of.
"What have we got?"
Evie took a deep breath and pulled up the floor plan. "Which room is he in?"
"Lord Nelson. 43."
"What's wrong with that, it's a great room?" She asked, typing in 'STX' into the room category filter. She cringed when the plan showed all Deluxe Suites to be full for the next three days, most of which already checked in.
"He wants the bathroom in Room 25."
She peered up at him with a baffled frown, her lip curling upwards to really highlight her disdain, and Theo struggled not to smirk.
"He said he booked the room under the pretence he'd be getting that bathroom." He shrugged with a roll of his eyes.
"Then he's an idiot." Evie grumbled, turning back to the floor plan. "He can't have it today, the guest booked in there is already checked in."
"Fan-fucking-tastic." Theo muttered, huffing a breath as he rested his hand across the back of the chair. "What about tomorrow?"
She pulled up the comments for the guest arriving in Room 25 for the next day, nothing particularly jumping out at them as to why they couldn't be moved. "I mean, if he desperately wants 25 he can have it tomorrow, and I can move this guest to 43."
"Okay, well at least there's that solution." He sighed again, though this time it was more withdrawn. "I'll go talk to him."
"I'd recommend showing him the room tomorrow morning, though." She suggested as Theo began to move back towards the Drawing Room. "Because he might change his mind with the balustrades blocking the view. Don't wanna cause housekeeping loads of trouble only to move everything back again."
Theo nodded, pointing a lazy finger at her. "Good call."
Evangeline busied herself again with an email in the reservations inbox, nothing special just an afternoon tea booking that was probably going to end up being more hassle than it was worth given it was a table of four pregnant women. She watched as Theo ambled back into the lobby with the irate guest, shortly followed by Nathan who called a new arrival out to her.
She nodded, going through the arrivals list to check the booking on the computer, and then disappeared behind the small partition to find the registration card and room key for the next receptionist available to handle. As she sat back down the phone began to ring again, so she answered it but kept an eye for someone to return. As she handled the new room reservation on her end, Theo returned from handling the picky guest, so she gave him a limp wave and pushed the folder with the new arrival details towards him.
