Some James Headcanons

Hey all! Sorry for the delay on some of the fics, I've been a bit sick this past week, so I'm afraid you'll have to settle for some light work (in the form of headcanons of my comfort character). Some of these you'll have seen in previous fics, some are new. Hope you enjoy, and I hope that I'll have a nice Tokyo fic finished by next week!

Gay male (mlm) and uses he/him pronouns.

The first person he came out to was Clare, followed by Michelle who found out accidentally, then Orla and finally Erin.

Dating David (the music duo my beloveds)

Quite canon, but he's an absolute nerd.

Has a comic book collection that he brought from London, it's his prized possession and he rarely shows it to people.

On that note, the first person who got to see it was Orla, and the only person who he ever loaned one to was David.

Outside of fantasy, he loves to read in general. He used it as a form of escapism as a kid, and it stuck with him into his teenage years.

His favourite books are The Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit, but he loves any book with strong world building and fantasy.

The most sappy and hopeless romantic out of the gang. Hands down.

Loved the idea of writing love letters (especially to some of the boys he fell for back home).

He also loved poetry and Old English/Shakespearean writings, always wanted to annotate a poem or book for a partner to get to know them better.

His ideal date is a picnic in the forest or a flower meadow.

Love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation.

Loves talking about his (and other peoples) current interests for hours.

He's constantly cold, so he loves big cozy jumpers.

He also loves stealing them from anyone and everyone.

Hates the smells of alcohol, smoke and coffee. Doesn't enjoy many strong smelling things in general, even candles can often give him migraines.

Had a collection of postcards and photos of scenes from London and other areas that he didn't get to take with him to Derry. He was really upset that he never got to bring them, so he sends his old friends postcards in hopes of getting some similar ones back.

Loves birds, specifically crows. Always gets calmed when he sees them.

Wanted to try makeup because he had/has anxiety about his face and general appearance, so when he got the chance to wear eyeliner, it helped him a lot. (If you read my James fics you know where this is going).

Sometimes gets Clare to do his makeup when he knows no one else will see.

If he feels more comfortable, he lets Michelle put makeup on him because she does it more dramatic

Bites his nails when he gets nervous.

Also cracks his knuckles at any opportunity he can.

Cat person - he will always (and I mean ALWAYS) stop to pet a stray cat.

Used to play guitar in a small band back in London, also used to write some of the songs for them. It was one of the few things he missed about London.

Loves the sound of rain to the point that if there's heavy rain on his window, he stops what he's doing to listen for a few moments.

Has never seen snow in person, only in photographs or movies

As well as the rainbow badge from Erin, he keeps trinkets from all of the people that matter to him. These include:

A hand-made friendship bracelet from Clare. He very rarely takes it off.

Polaroid photos of him and Michelle, taken by Deirdre on one of James' first few days in the country

Concert tickets from taking Erin to David's gigs.

A scrunchie that Orla left him and refused to take back. She insists that one day his hair will be long enough for it.

Bottle caps from various parties and events he was brought (or more accurately dragged) to.

A tiny TARDIS pin from his dad.

Cassettes that David made for him. (His favourite is one called 'Songs that made me think of you').

The bear from his Friends Across the Barricades trip.

One of Michelle's old eyeliner pencils. It's very used and smudges easily.

Cinema ticket stubs for Goodfellas.

Never learned to ride a bike. Instead, just insists that his running speed is faster.

Got his ear pierced when he was 14 because one of his friends wanted one but was too scared to do it alone. Has also never worn an earring since.

Got to kiss a boy before Erin did... she was not happy.

Hates his middle name (canonically, it's 'Z') , so instead tells (almost) everyone his middle name is Oliver.

Never was taught how to shave, so Gerry taught him the day before his prom.

His favourite drink is hot chocolate

Used to play chess back at his old school but didn't enjoy it.
