Halloween Special

Chapter 1

The day started off on a more awful note. Mrs. Bustier was in a bad mood and decided to give the class a surprise, pop quiz. Marinette tried not to let her score get the best of her and decided to occupy her mind with something else. As she glanced around the room, she noticed how much everyone had become closer to one another. Well almost everyone. Chloe was the only one who never changed. When she looked in front of her, she saw Adrien smile shyly at her. 

Adrien. 

Marinette darted her eyes and shook her head. She thought to herself, so much for clearing her mind. Just then, the final bell of the day rang and everyone swiftly left the classroom. 

"Marinette, can you believe today is the day?"

Alya hooked her arm around her best friend's shoulders and guided her toward their friend group, who were conveniently, standing in the entrance of the school. 

"What's today?" Marinette said blankly. 

"GIRL! I have you not been listening to anything I've said at all today?" 

Marinette giggled nervously then said, "R-right, now I remember."  

"I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS SLEEPOVER!" Alix shouted as Marinette and Alya joined the group. 

"I know, I can't wait to start all the fun activities!" said Rose happily. 

"Girls, shall we investigate as to why our dear friend Marinette has forgotten about our first annual Halloween sleepover?"

The girls turned their attention to Marinette, who was now as bright as a tomato. 

"I-I, W-well," Marinette started then took a deep breath, "Sorry girls, that pop quiz caught me off guard, which lead to me-" then trailed off. 

"it's okay, Marinette. We know that you have a lot on your plate." Rose said reassuringly, as she pulled Marinette into a hug, which then turned into a group hug. 

"Thanks girls. I don't know what I would do without you guys,"  Marinette said lovingly as she wiped small tears from her eyes. 

"Are we going to your house or what?" Alix said impatiently. 

Meanwhile with the boys. 

"Hey, dude!" Nino said as he greeted Adrien with a fist bump, who was standing at the bottom of the stairs. 

"Hey, Nino!" 

"Sooooo," said Nino rather suspiciously. 

"So what?" Adrien raised a brow.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about," Nino said bluntly.

"I didn't have time to ask my father because he and Nathalie left really early for a business trip," Adrien said disappointingly. 

"Don't worry, dude, we'll figure something else out." 

"I can't wait to show you my new dance moves," Kim said as he started demonstrating some.

"Well, I can't wait for all of you to test out my new game. It's sorta like Super Mega Strike Three but IN VR!" exclaimed Max as he held out a little flash drive. 

"Yeah, and I can't wait for you guys to listen to the song I wrote for Mylene." 

"Oh, and we need to show you our new comic book!"

"Hey, dudes!" 

They greeted each other, then Max chimed in, "So Adrien, is your father going to let you go to Nino's house?" 

Adrien let out a breath, then said "Well, I don't know, since he left really early for a-" 

"I GOT IT!" Nino exclaimed, "We should just move the party to your house!" 

Adrien furrowed his brows and was about to make a rebuttal from the last time they tried that, but Nino was quick to say, "and no, it won't be like last time since Marinette's with her friends." 

Marinette. 

He hadn't spoken to her in a while. He wondered how she was. 

"I guess that would work, since Gorilla is having a movie marathon and would rather not be bothered unless it was necessary.   

The earned lots of cheers from the boys. 

"Wait, how are we going to get into your room without gorilla noticing?"

"Oh, you don't have to worry. I know a guy," replied Adrien nonchalantly, "Let's meet up at the entrance of the school in about thirty minutes." 

They agreed then started walking to the entrance of the school. Ivan put his hand on Adrien's shoulder and said, "Hey, Adrien. is it cool with you if I invite another bro to our bro caveover party?" 

"Sure, who is it exactly?"

"Oh, it's just Luka. 

"Luka?" Adrien asked more to himself rather than aloud. 

Adrien couldn't put his finger on what he was feeling, but one things is for sure. He didn't like Luka. His mind drifted back to a couple of days ago. He was on patrol and decided to visit Marinette. When he arrived at her balcony, he knocked on the trap door, but no one opened it. Then he heard her laugh, but it wasn't coming from her room. It came from the park across the street. 

Marinette was laughing with Luka. He felt his stomach drop when he realized that he had never made Marinette laugh like that. What was he doing wrong? Whenever he was around Marinette, as Adrien, she would always stutter and act uncomfortable. This is how it was, up until recently. Her mannerisms became worse. She would avoid talking to him completely and never look him in the eyes. What had he done? 

The worst part about it was that it wasn't just Marinette that was acting odd, but Ladybug. She was missing more patrols, and when he saw her, she would tell him that she had to get going directly after they met up. Did she have a boyfriend? 

Then he went home and that's when it happened. He had a dream that he and Ladybug were fighting Hawkmoth. All was going well until Ladybug got hit and fell unconscious. Then when she woke up, she started saying all sorts of things to him like how horrible of a partner he was, and how she will never love him. Then Hawkmoth and Ladybug started cornering him, trying to get his miraculous. He didn't have a choice but to use his cataclysm. He was aiming for Hawkmoth, but then he pushed Ladybug in front of him. 

Adrien woke up the next morning drenched in sweat. What would he do if his dream comes true? What if he's not able to protect his lady in another battle? Worse, what if she hates him? When he got up to splash some cold water in his face, he saw how much his face showed grief. Once he made it to school, Nino kept bombarding him with questions, but Adrien ignored them all. That is until he saw Marinette, who looked entirely distraught. 

He wondered if Luka did something with her appearance. Then his mind filled with anger. He was about to go ask Marinette, what happened when she looked up at him. It seemed as if time froze, leaving only the two of them, enveloped in a bubble of intimacy where the noise of the world faded away, and all that mattered was the connection they shared. They knew they had to talk about something, but where would they start. Marinette got up from the bench and ran to the bathroom.  

"Adrien?" Nino asked as he shook his best friend out of his trans. 

"Dude, you totally blacked out after Ivan asked you a question." 

"Oh right. Luka and the bro cave-over." 

He pondered the question for a bit then decided that if Luka would try to harm Marinette in some way, he wouldn't hesitate to use his cataclysm to wipe his smile off his face.  

"Uhm, sure," Adrien said as he gave them a fake smile. 

"Woo-hoo, let the fun begin."
