A few minutes later...
2:15 PMAfter doing almost every ride in the park, I stood beside the others as we took a little break.
Lucy then came up to me with an enthusiastic look on her face while asking, "Hey Gray, I'm hungry. Would you come with me to get some takoyaki?"
I didn't have time to answer as Lucy pulled me along with her.
When we found a food court that had takoyaki, Lucy made me wait in line as she sat at a nearby table. I sighed and decided not to say anything about it. However, when I got to the front of the line, I was met with a familiar face.
The person who handed me the takoyaki was none other than Lyon Vastia, and judging by the uniform he must've been working here. Memories of our time in elementary school came swarming through my brain as I took a step back. I was in so much disbelief that I could hardly utter his name.
Lyon didn't bother to acknowledge me as he called out to Lucy. "Hey Lucy, learn to mind your own business."
Lucy flinched at the sound of his voice and we immediately made eye contact.
And just like that, the invisible "x" came back.
Of course, she knew, no wonder she made me wait in line. She did it just so I could see the one person that ditched me all those years ago, which was justifiable, to say the least.
I sped past Lucy and didn't bother to look back when she called my name. When she finally caught up to me I could see the concerned look on her face.
"Are you mad at me?" She asked, to which I responded by shaking my head.
"No, I-I'm fine," I said, wanting to get far away as soon as possible.
"I just thought..." Lucy started, "That maybe you guys could be friends, you know like you used to be?"
I shoved my free hand in my pocket as I turned to face Lucy while still holding the takoyaki.
"I guess I was hoping that once you guys actually saw each other, everything would be okay."
"Don't do me any favors, okay?" I said, slightly annoyed.
When I looked forward I saw the others interacting happily with each other. But my eyes only focused on Juvia as I saw how bright her smile was.
"I did the exact same thing..." I muttered to myself as my eyes trailed to the ground.
With the takoyaki discarded, Lucy and I found a quiet place to sit under a couple of trees that served as decorations. Was sat there in silence, as the distance between us grew wider.
"You and I are more alike than you think, you know?" Lucy began.
"No, we're not." I denied, covering my hands with my face in frustration.
"Yes, we are."
"We're nothing alike, Lucy." I countered back.
A few moments of silence...
"If Juvia hadn't shown up, we would all still be friends."
Maybe that was a possibility, but not all friendships last. It was probably only a matter of time.
I shook my head. "You don't know that."
Lucy let out a tired sigh. "Come on, just admit it! If it wasn't for her, things wouldn't have gotten all weird between Lisanna and me. And then you wouldn't have stopped being friends with Lyon either. I just want to go back to the way things were before she showed up."
