Gray's POV:

I played with the led of my pencil as I waited for class to begin. I glanced over to the corner and saw my best friend Lyon giving me a smirk, which I returned. We knew the drill, once school was done for the day we had the freedom to do whatever we wanted.

The rain was particularly hard this morning as it pattered against the roof.

Ms. Porlyusica finally came in announcing that a new student would be joining our class. I paid no mind to it as I continued to play with my pencil.

I felt a hand shove me and I looked to my side to see Lucy giving me a sly smile.

"What do you want?" I asked in annoyance.

"You're in luck, Gray. I heard it's a girl." I rolled my eyes and reverted my attention back to my desk.

"So what? Like I care?"

Just then the classroom door opened and a girl entered the classroom. She had azure blue hair, midnight blue eyes, and a snow-like skin complexion. Her long hair was tightly curled at the base, and she wore a sapphire blue coat along with a furry trimmed navy blue shawl. The thing that stood out about her the most was the Russian Cossack hat that sat gently on her head.

"Alright class, this is Juvia Lockser. Would you like to introduce yourself?" Ms. Porlyusica asked with her usual bitter tone.

I shook my head before looking down at my desk again uninterested. After a few moments of silence went by I realized that the girl hadn't said anything.

I looked up and saw her giving the same shy smile.

Ms. Porlyusica lightly tapped her shoulder which brought the girl out of her trance as her eyes widened in realization. Juvia picked up the blue bag that sat by her foot and began to open it. Murmurs of curiosity grew throughout the classroom as we watched her take out a notebook and pen. I myself couldn't help but be a little curious. She quickly wrote something down in the notebook and turned it around to share it with us.

It said:

"Nice to meet you. I'm Juvia Lockser."

She turned another page and wrote something down.

"Through this notebook, I hope to become good friends with you all."

"Please use it when you need to talk to me."

When Juvia turned the final page what she wrote shocked us the most.

"I'm deaf."

Tons of scenarios played through my head as I finally comprehended the situation.

I let out a small gasp before exclaiming, "Holy crap!"
