Quickly dashing through the tall herds of grass, a little hairless creature led a group of armored men with steeds sprinting through a herd of trees, like a constantly shifting maze.

The creature occasionally looked back at the group, yipping, and chirping with its black beak and heavy head that sat atop of its long neck; always acted like it was trying hard to resist the force of gravity. Its two skinny claws moved swiftly past one another without tripping, making it advance at a mounting speed.

The group had trouble keeping pace with the small naked creature, constantly being on the lookout for their surrounding while trying not to lose sight of it.

This had been going on for two days straight, and all the men along with their horses were near exhaustion.

It all began with a simple order by the King. Go to the Forest of divinities, I want you to search for the wonder! Get him here and cure my Queen; I don't care what method you use, just make sure he gets here!

The simple order given by the King was equivalent to giving them a death sentence. Force them to go through a forest full of ungodly creatures? Creatures not belonging to any other continents? A forest where both men and children go missing and never be seen again? A forest where the geography is constantly amiss and making changes at unprecedented speeds? Where the rumored first magician died!

This was surely a death sentence for them! But these were orders given directly by the King, and as mere servants working under him, they had to obey.

Even if it cost them their life, it was in the Knights' code of honor, and to break it would mean treason.

Closely watching the wobbly head of the unusual creature, the captain of the company was the closest behind it, no exhaustion was visible from his passive face but the visible sweat and his heavy breathing indicated the opposite.

Just as he felt himself about to collapse, he saw the odd creature flap its featherless wings and start to float away. If it weren't for his already exhausted state, he was sure he would've been able to feel his heart skip a beat!

"Ca...Captain!" Hearing the distressed call of his subordinates, the burly man turned his head, only to meet a canvas of red behind him. The captain was motionless. The exhaustion he felt from the journey disappeared at that moment but the rapid beating of his heart continued, no, it accelerated. Feeling the painful tightening of his heart, the captain quickly dismounted his steed, stumbling towards where his men were supposed to be.

"What..what is this?!" Dropping to his knees, the blood of his brothers in his arm stained his armor.

"Mikal, Gorge, Seth!" He called out with his voice, raspy and heavy, a desperate plea for his friends, "Blrgh!!" But at that moment a painful sensation rippled through his chest. He coughed out a mouthful of dark inky blood, and his eyes began rolling back.

There was a rift in the air and the sounds of heavy bodies collapsing all at once.

The man collapsed on the ground, the corpses of his brothers lying beside him. They all dawned a similar appearance with the way they died. With a mouth fully dripping with blood, eyes rolled back, and a heavy dent on their armor.

"Swaqueke!" A less than flattering cry of a bird echoed.

Slowly floating down towards the corpses, it was the wobbly-headed creature the men had followed. It didn't seem any different from before, except..its beak was now red.

When its feet landed on the grass, it didn't dawdle to rest, instead quickly jumping onto the bodies.

*sktech

Its small talons scratched at the men's armor.

*sktech

It continued to scratch.

"Wobble, what did you do to the horses?"

*sktech

"Wobble!"

"Hn?"

Squatting in front of the little bird, a man with angled eyes looked down on it. There was a hint of disgust in his dark eyes, but the man still picked up the bird nonetheless.

Now hanging by its neck, Wobble didn't even try to struggle from the person's rough grasp, choosing to silently dangle in the air like a ragdoll.

Wobble's golden slit eyes stared at the man.

"Pft, Haha! You're so amusing, Wobble!" Its head perked up. "Squak?...Squawk-!!!" Wobble's eyes bulged, and its blue tongue stuck out from the sudden force around its neck.

With smiling eyes, the man squeezed the featherless bird's neck.

"Hmm? You're bored?"

"Squawk! Squawk!"

"Aww, you're a lucky fellow, Wobble," The man dropped Wobble, to which it proceeded to fall with a thud. It lay on the grass like an abandoned toy.

"..."

"Go get me their invitation, Wobble. I don't want to touch your mess."

"Squawk!" Springing back to life, Wobble scrambled around the soldier's corpses, its head nearly dragging on the floor as it did.

Silently watching the bird scramble about, the man glanced down at the wax-sealed envelope in his hand.

Wax? After centuries past, do they still use wax to seal envelopes? Sigh...how much has my magic spoiled these sentient beings? Whatever, these are humans anyway, they have peculiar tastes.

Walking away from the corpses, he suddenly stopped in his track as if remembering something important.

"What did you do to those horses, Wobble? You've never exactly answered my question," Wobble poked his head from under a corpse, its entire body was painted red. He scrunched his nose, waving the envelope in its face to show Wobble no longer needed to dig through the bodies.

"Eugh, never mind. Go clean yourself, you're absolutely revolting." He continued with his stride, the plants and vegetation making way for him as he stepped on thin air with his bare feet. His black hair flowed in the air like a quiet stream, long and seemingly continuous without a sign of the end.

"Squawk!"

"Hurry up, the queen could be dead before we get there."
