The warmth rolling over your skin is a lovely contrast to the sudden cold lingering just outside the walls of Castle Dimitrescu. A pop and crackle of fire hums throughout the otherwise quiet space of the mistress' chambers. You can't quite recall all of the events from some days prior, but you can remember the taste of her lips, the feeling of her being closer to you than you had ever imagined.

It's a delightful memory compared to the empty space next to you in her spacious bed. There's a dip in the bed, very likely from Alcina Dimitrescu herself, but the woman in question is nowhere to be found. You sigh, tugging the fine material of her blankets over your shoulder, much too content with the feeling of safety and warmth to leave the little cocoon you've somehow buried yourself in.

If you recalled correctly, she had a meeting this morning with Mother Miranda. And as of lately you knew her entire schedule, it was hard not to when the mistress had migrated you into her own bedchambers instead of the guest chamber.

You rub at your eyes, trying to rid yourself of the overwhelming drowsiness lingering in your system. The feathery pillows around your head made it almost impossible to resist the dreamy call from the sandman, beckoning you back to sleep. It was almost strange how quickly you'd taken to this castle as if it were your home all along.

Alcina found it sweet, however.

And everything would have been perfect if the stray worry of Miranda didn't linger in your mind during the late hours of the night. The dreams, growing more vivid each time, haunted you to the point of feeling as though every crow you see might be watching you, waiting to reenact one of those dreams. Despite Alcina's promises to protect you, you knew there was only so much she could do, and the woman sounded dangerous.

If she gifted the lords, Alcina's daughters, and every other creature here with some sort of "gift", what couldn't she do to you? A simple human with no special gifts or immortality.

The thought makes you shuffle around in the blissful pile of blankets. What were you to Alcina, really? And why would she protect you from a woman she clearly held deep respect and admiration for?

You sigh, pushing the thoughts to the side. Alcina had been very comforting each and every time a nightmare woke you up in the depth of the night. She held you close, wrapped you safely in her arms, whispered soft words in your ear. She called you beautiful. She said she would never let anyone hurt you.

Surely, Alcina Dimitrescu would have every belief in her own words. And you did too. You would believe that the woman would protect you if it came down to it.

The door to the room opens, a familiar head of burgundy hair appearing suddenly after.

"Good morning, Y/N!" Daniela Dimitrescu's light and playful voice rips away your thoughts and despair, for the time being. She almost vanishes into a mess of flies, only for a moment, before reappearing next to you where Alcina would have been. "Are you awake, human?"
