Chapter Three

Authors Note: This novel is going to be just Ethan and Ellie’s point of views. I find it gives more curiosity towards what happened to Kate and her life, where is she, is she happy etcetera… But If you’re wondering why then I’ve put a hint about Kyle, the boy who falls in love with Kate, then you’ll see later on!

Oh yeah and I’m sorry if this novel is too sad :(. …I type from music, from my head to my heart and I solely only want the reader to know such powerful emotions coming off the characters. I’m sorry if this isn’t your type of genre…perhaps you prefer a more...light heartened novel? This is my first try at writing a sweet novel, unlike my other two which are focused on the fazed hierarchy of school life.

Once always…thank you for reading, I hope you stick with me till the very end :)

Ethan’s Pov.

14th May 2008

“So it’s all my fault now is it?!” Kate snapped, clutching her coat closer to her body in a feeble attempt to gather warmth from the harsh May weather.

“I never said that, I’m just saying that you need to think things through before you act upon it!” I retorted back, walking in front of her deliberately in a pace faster than hers so she struggled to keep up. “What’s wrong with you? You’re normally shy and quiet in class, just hidden underneath some textbook at the back of the class, and all of a sudden you just seem to turn into a nightmare”

“Well I’m sorry,” Kate muttered sarcastically. “Sorry for attempting to stick up for myself in front of that arrogant girl when you just sat there like a sack of potatoes watching me get bullied,”

“You should have just ignored her Kate, you usually did,” I argued back, anger welling in the back of my mind.

“I’m sick of being the tolerant one. Tired, oh so exhausted from keeping up my façade of pretending like nothing ever will hurt me, when every word seemingly makes me want to cry,”

Frowning, I struggled to keep up with her rapid words, as the strong wind made it seem like it swept her words from her mouth, carrying it away into the air out of my reach to hear.

Watching in disbelief as Kate stormed into her house; I stood in the whirlpool of my own guilt, sadness and frustration.

Kate didn’t show up at school the next day.

“Hey man, you up for the trials?” David jogged up to me in his light blue shorts, his chest heaving heavily on and out from the long trek down the field.

“I’m not sure, it seems like it’s going to be near impossible,” I joked, folding my clothes and shoving them into the bottom of my bag. Flipping his light blonde hair back, David raised his eyebrows and slumped next to the bench corner of the changing room.

“C’mon Ethan, you’re the best out there. You could easily pass the trial” He urged, nudging me gently in the ribs. “Oh whilst you ponder over that, I noticed some girl got her eyes watching you,”

“Hmm?” I turned to look at his mischievous eyes staring dauntingly at me. Swinging the bag over my shoulder, I adjusted the strap again and turned to walk out.

“Ellie, that shy one who seems swept up in her own world,” David called after me in a loud voice, drawling with boredom. “I heard you walked home with her yesterday,”

Freezing in my footsteps, I tilted my head slightly. “So what?” I shrugged, challenging him to come at me with some sarcastic remark.

“Are you interested in her Ethan? You haven’t shown much interest in girls ever since you came here…are you gay?” David laughed coldly, shuffling around on the bench seat.

“For the last time David…im not interested in you,” I grinned devilishly back, walking away in content when I heard him curse under his breath. Of course I wasn’t interested in the girls ever since I came here.

Well…technically speaking…there was nothing holding me back from asking any one of the hundreds here. Clenching my hands into fists, I shrugged the thought away from my mind, and hurried over to the main building to pick up some lunch.

Sorry Ellie…even if you are interested.

There’s only one girl for me.

She’s out there somewhere, in the busy city, following her dream of becoming a singer.

But I’ll find her one day. And reunite.

I’ll keep the promise.

Ellie’s Pov

Actions speak louder than words. That’s what my Mum always told me every morning and night before I went to school and bed for the day. Sighing, I leaned back on my plastic chair, flipping the biro in my hand light heartedly.

The quote was true, yet I still find it impossibly hard to speak words or use any action.

Behind me, Annie sat giggling about the latest magazine, smearing lip gloss onto their swollen lips from kissing year ten boys every break. Rolling my eyes, I could hear them whispering about their daily shopping trip to Meadow hall- the large shopping centre in Sheffield.

Sneaking a glance at Ethan from under my book, I noticed that he seemed to have a permanent solemn expression onto his features in class.

His deep brown eyes, they seemed distant and faraway, a place where I could never see or reach it felt like. Ethan looked like he was trying to find something long gone, searching for the remainder of his memory and trying to piece together the broken parts to reply his favourite moments.

What was he thinking about?

Biting my lip, I glanced down at my blank paged book numbly, rolling the pen about on the palms of my hands. You’re becoming obsessed Ellie, I sighed to myself.

But I just can’t stay away…

What is that draws me to him so much?
