Wes was silent in between patients. It was strange how quiet he was because usually he was super talkative, making jokes, and making me laugh. But today it felt like the roles were reversed. It felt like I was the one who was being talkative and making him laugh.

"Hey Wes," I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow. He glanced over at me for a brief moment before looking back ahead of where we were walking. I took his silence as an answer to my call of his name. "What was the shy pebble's only wish?" I asked, feeling a smile grow across my lips. It already felt like a challenge to hold back my laughter, a challenge I was losing. Because before he even got the chance to ask an annoyed 'what?' I broke down in laughter.

"This must be a pretty good joke if it has you this way," Wes chuckled lightly as we stopped walking. I leaned against the wall to keep myself upright. My laughter was uncontrollable.

"He wanted to be a little boulder!" I shouted as my laughter finally took over, almost forcing me to the ground. Wes looked down at me, an amused smile growing over his lips. "Because he was a pebble! And he was shy! He wanted to be bolder... But also BOULDER!" I shouted through my laughter.

"W-What's going on over here?" A familiar woman asked as I tried to catch my breath.

"T-Terrible dad jokes," Wes explained as he helped me to my feet. Even through my laughter, I shot him a glare. I really hope the joke helped cheer him up, or made him the slightest bit happier. Or my ridiculous laughter at the stupid joke made him better.

"Terrible!? It made you laugh!" I shouted as I stared at him. Wes looked back at me with a raised eyebrow. An amused smirk still sat on his lips.

"Was it the joke or your laughter?" Wes teased and shot me a wink. I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

"I can hear you laugh from the other side of the clinic," the woman explained. I looked over and saw Jessica. She was staring at me with an equally amused smirk, but her's told me other things.
"Right... Right..." She looked between me and Wes before turning and leaving. I looked over at Wes and smiled. I was expecting him to still be smiling, but I was mildly shocked when he had a sad expression.

"Did something happen? You're kinda sad today," I asked. Wes glanced at me again, a certain sad confusion on his face as he took the lead in walking back towards his office.

"Oh, uh," he paused and glanced over at me. I could see the sadness in his eyes and it made me sad. I didn't like that. "A girl I thought was interested in me... Uh, turns out she wasn't," he explained as he pulled his office key from his lab coat.

Who the hell wouldn't be interested in him!? This girl... She's missing out. That's on her honestly. If I wasn't focussing on just work, I'd probably make a move. I'd ignore what Kurt said about being careful with him. To be honest, I still haven't figured out why Kurt said I had to be careful with Wes. Sure he's a charmer... But there's nothing wrong with that... Is there?

"That's a shame," I mumbled without realizing. Wes laughed lightly as he looked at me.

"Is it?" he asked as he looked at me. I froze in my steps, realizing what I had just said. I looked over at Wes with wide eyes. He turned to face me once he realized I had stopped walking.
