"Tonight is a waste of money and time," James said as he emerged from the cinema with Steve at his side, yawning mightily.

"I liked it," he disagreed with Bucky, then gave him an omniscient look. "And you'd like the movie, too, if you'd believe in love at first sight. Or at least in love," he prodded.

Barnes gave a throaty, loud laugh, immediately drawing stares from several girls who were standing nearby, and then they looked at each other and giggled. James Barnes was a very handsome young man and regularly had girl after girl around him because his charm and a few cheap flatteries were hard to resist. And James always enjoyed the attention. Besides, he's always had a choice, so he's never been short of a girlfriend.

"I do believe in love," he pleaded, then put his arm around his best friend, "but even you have to admit that love at first sight is stupid. That's exactly why I didn't enjoy the movie." The life around you suddenly slows down, and the world around you suddenly disappears, when your eyes meet the eyes of the one who's supposed to be the one, your heart skips a beat, and all of a sudden you know... that was stupid. And James had no idea how anyone could believe this. “You can't fall in love at first sight. Isn't that more of a long shot? I guess something like that takes time, don't you think?" he asked his friend, looking down at him.

"I won't answer that. Like you, I don't have the proper experience," he replied, his eyes straying to a cluster of girls who were whispering and casting furtive glances at Bucky as they did so. "But you might if you gave chance at least to one girl and stayed with her for more than a few days."

Barnes smiled at that. "None of them are worth it."

"So you're waiting for the right one, too?"

"No, Steve, my motto is: enjoy life while you can. And I will take great pleasure in all the joys and virtues. If it's offering them to me right on a silver platter, why not take advantage, huh? And a broken heart doesn't sound very pleasant to me." He winked, but Steve ignored him. Bucky looked in the same direction he did. "Are you looking among them to see if there's the right one hidden somewhere? Come on, let's go. Which girl do you like?"

"Bucky, even if I like one of them, she won't want anything to do with me," Steve reminded him emphatically - but not sadly. Bucky had been his best friend for years, and Steve was always in his shadow. But he didn't blame him. Over the years, he'd grown accustomed to regular rejections from the girls, and he didn't really blame them. Who would have picked him when Bucky was here? Charismatic, funny, confident, attractive, and manly James Barnes. Steve was sickly, not very handsome, awkward in social conversation, and ordinary. Bucky may have had crowds of girls, but according to Steve, most of the time they were just silly girls he couldn't stand to be around. Unlike James, he was not looking for amusement, distraction, companionship for a few nights, but for someone who will truly love him for who he was, lived in common tolerance and harmony, and their conversations were not shallow, full of empty flattery and annoying giggles. That's why he believed he'd find the one someday. Bucky just didn't have the high standards for women that he did.
