Chapter VII Vermont

Six hours later Jonathan reached Vermont. By now he thought that New York was the place the Orgs used for a coming to earth’s surface, which would mean that Connecticut and parts of New York State would be the only places with destruction. When he reached the first town he soon found out that he was wrong. What had once been a small town with buildings that took you into the past was now a pile of rubble.  As he drove down the debris lined road, he saw a little black girl. She looked seven, had black frizzy hair, a blue one piece dress, and no shoes or socks. Her face arms and legs where covered in dirt. Jonathan stopped, got out of his car and walked over to the girl. She starred at him with her big blue eyes.

 “It’s OK. I am friendly.”

He then bent down and slowly moved to pick her up. She didn’t resist and Jonathan was able to pick her up. He got a blanket, wrapped her in it and put her in the passenger seat of the car. He then buckled her up and got in the drivers seat.

“What’s your name?” Jonathan said.

She said nothing.

“If you don’t want to talk yet that’s ok, but you have to answer this question. Is there anyone else around? Are there any hurt or wounded?”

 She shook her head no. Jonathan started the car and drove off. About 10 minuets later she fell asleep.

One hour later she woke up.

“Did you sleep well?”

She nodded yes.

A blond girl, about 12, was coming down the mountain on the right. The road they had been traveling on went through a canyon. Now it opened up went through a valley. Ahead Jonathan saw two military tanks and about 10 soldiers getting attacked by some small and one medium Org ship.

“Get in!” He said.

The girl ran up to the car got in and put the black girl on her lap. 

He speed up and though, “If they see me they will make me stay with them. I have to go in a small group if I want to live. I know what I’ll do.”

Soon the Astro Cannon targeted one of the ships and started firing. Jonathan stopped close to the army. Small ships came crashing to the ground exploding. Soon all the small where destroyed.  Only the medium ship was left. It retreated into the distant sky.

“Jonathan Oakshaw I presume.” The army general said.

“Yes.”

“Thank you for saving us.”

“Your welcome, it’s always a pleasure to help someone.”

 “Where heading north, we’d like you to join us.”

“I’m sorry but I can’t. It’s better to be in a small group.”

“That’s crazy. You’ll die with out our help.”

 “I know more about the Orgs than you do. I am sorry. But I can’t stay.”

Jonathan steeped on the gas speed out of there.

 “Jonathan!!! You come back here right now!!!” The general said.

One of his men aimed his gun at the Corvette and the general waved him off. The little black girl fell asleep in the girls lap as she sang to her.

About one hour later Jonathan stopped the car and made sandwiches. The black girl was still asleep and the other girl got out and laded her on the seat of the car. As they ate there sandwiches the girl said, “I am Ellery.”

“My name is Jonathan.”

“What’s your last name?”

“It’s Oakshaw. But you can call me Jonathan.”

Jonathan went to check on the Astro cannon and see if it was still in good condition.

“Jonathan. She’s not breathing.”

The little black girl had stopped breathing. Jonathan ran over to check her.

“Her heart has stopped.” He said. “She’s dead.

Jonathan and Ellery found a place on the mountain near by where they laded her. Jonathan and Ellery walked back to the car with a sad feeling in there heart.

As they finished there sand wiches Jonathan turned on the radio. “This is breaking news. Good afternoon. We now know that the aliens are called Orgs. The president made contact with the Orgs and found out that they are attacking us because we attacked them with the N.E.S. probe. The president says, (Clip of his speech is played.) “I want everyone to repeat the phrase, it was a mistake, the N.E.S. probe was for exploration, and get to the nearest army base.” The president also said you can find an army base or camp by going to armybases.com

The same sickness that Anina dups had at the start of the year is spreading quickly. Doctors are working hard to cure it.”

Jonathan turned the radio off and finished his sandwich.

“If you need to go to the bath room now’s the time.”

After taking care of their business, they got in the car and drove away. 

“How old are you?” Jonathan asked.

“I’m Twelve.”

“What do you like to do?”

She thought for a minuet then said, “I like to play with dolls and my brothers, sisters and cousins.” A tear formed in each of her eyes.

“Do you miss them?”

She nodded yes.

Bang! A laser hit the side of the Corvette. Jonathan slammed on the breaks and got out of the car. He ran around to the other side of the car got Ellery out and grabbed his alien gun.  There where 5 Orgs coming out of the trees about 20 Ft from the car. Just then a helicopter came close to the ground and started shooting the Orgs. One of the Orgs shot the helicopter. The man inside jumped out as it exploded. More Orgs came out from the trees and he shot them with a machine gun. Walking backward he got behind the Corvette and said, “I am da unknown number of greats grand son of   Napoleon Bonaparte.”

“I am jon…”

“I know who you are.”

 He then pointed the gun over the hood of the car and shoot some more. Orgs came out from the trees behind them and Jonathan whirled around and shot them. After about an hour of fighting Bonaparte’s grand son said yelling, “You get in the car and go! I will hold them off!”

“But you’ll!…”

“Just go!”

“It’s been a pleasure fighting with you!”

“Same here Jonathan!”

Jonathan went around to driver’s side of the car. Bonaparte’s grand son had his hands resting on Ellery’s shoulders.

“Let’s go!” Jonathan said over the gunfire.

“You put a smile on his face ya here.”

“I will, cousin!”

Then they hugged as tears streamed down there faces. Ellery got in the car and Jonathan drove off. She looked back as her cousin ducked and dogged lasers. About an hour later Ellery had stopped crying.

“So, he’s your cousin?”

Ellery nodded yes.

“He seamed like a nice guy for being a descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte. I am grateful for what he did.”
