The next Count

 
-Listen to me, Felix! You need to start the training. I want you to be prepared for replacing me as soon as possible.

The poor little boy didn't understand how serious the situation was. He looked at his father with such big eyes, his heart beating fast from excitement. He wanted to he like his father. To be a Count. To rule over the vampires. He didn't know what he was getting into.

-Sister! Sister! yelled Felix running to the garden right in Rachel's arms. Guess what! Tomorrow I start the training! I will be like papa!

Rachel forced a smile, but her eyes were filled with sadness.

-That's great, Lixie! You're gonna grow and become a powerful vampire, she said gesturing with her hands a lot, which made Felix more hyped. But you have to promise me something, ok? Felix nodded, his eyes sparkling.

-You have to remain the same sweet, kind-hearted, happy boy that is sitting in front of me right now, ok?

-Deal! he said without hesitation.

Rachel stood up of the bench and attacked Felix in a tickling battle. He chuckled and she smiled so bright, squeezing his brother in her arms.

They got interrupted by a nurse, looking for Rachel. Felix got worried when he saw the needle. She bowed before the two royals, then stared at the girl.

-Lady Rachel, it's time.

Rachel dusted off her dress and stood up, but she soon felt Felix's grip holding on to her skirt.

-Sister, are you sick?

-No, Lixie. It's nothing to be worried about, ok? she reassured him before leaving.

He didn't pay much attention to that event, he was too young to understand. If only he could have understand it earlier...

Years have passed, and Felix got wiser and more familiar to the concept of being a royal vampire. His training was occupying his all day. He was restricted between the walls of his house, he was allowed to see his mother only once a week and he was permanently under his father's supervision. That didn't stop him for sneaking to visit his sisters in the garden. He would found them in the same place, on the bench, looking at the empty lake.

-Sisters! Sisters! He ran into their arms and dig his face in their dresses.

-Lixie! Look at you! You are starting to look a lot like papa, said Olivia ruffling his grey hair.

-Papa said that gray suits the next ruler.

-I personally love more your natural blonde hair. It resembles mother, interrupted Rachel not looking at them.

Maybe it was because he couldn't see his sister so often, but she seemed different. She wasn't anymore the smiling big sister, but a depressed not so much talkative one. He noticed the change, but didn't say a thing. Olivia also noticed, so she tried to fill the gap despite the fact that she was the youngest.

-I should go back to my room. Father is gonna get mad if I stay too much out of the house, Rachel said between the coughing.

That terrified Felix. His sister's state wasn't normal. The number of nurses multiplied every year. Things were happening and Felix wasn't fully aware of them.

Another nurse came, this time shouting Olivia's name. Felix froze. There was the exact same scene, but with his other sister this time.

-Lady Olivia, it's time!
