Alex
I felt the water in the pool move, contrasting to my rhythm, as someone sat next to me and plopped their feet in.
Turning my head, I studied his silhouette. His hair went up at the front in a slight quiff and I could see the pool lights glint off of his lip ring. I turned back to the sky.
He then turned his head towards me and mimicked my actions. Not that there was anything to look at, I was plain as day.
He opened his mouth, then shut it again. Then opened it, "Do you ever just sit alone and feel like time stops? Like the whole world is moving but everything around you stops but your mind keeps running."
I nodded. He seemed to accept my response and went quiet once again. Normally I closed myself off to strangers, but, the night changes me. I didn't know him, but I suddenly felt like if I didn't speak my mind with him right now as he was sitting next to me, I would explode.
"I hate when my mind runs. It makes me realize how unimportant my life is in this world and I feel alone."
Again, I looked at him, this time to gauge his response.
"Being alone is different than being lonely," he had the kind of voice that someone would want to record and play over and over so they could study his every word. I could tell from everything that came from his lips that his life had a certain depth and gravity to it. It was something worth learning about and he was someone special. "I like being alone, but I hate being lonely." As soon as he said that, he looked me in the eyes. I tried to look away, but I couldn't tear my gaze from his, "Do you want to go for a walk?"
I nodded.
