It had been a month; A month since granny had been buried,
A month of perpetual numbness and tears,
A month of being a workaholic to keep me from feeling anything else.
I woke up every morning, got to work and returned home once I was too tired to walk straight. Patrick was the only one who helped me through out this period, we became close and I started thinking that it wouldn't be so bad to give him a second chance.
We were just from finalizing a huge contract where I would be in charge and we had decided to celebrate.
"Hey Elisa, you ready?"
"I will be joining you in a minute."
I grabbed my purse and followed him. We had not made it official yet but we had decided to give us a second chance. Patrick had his load of vices but deep down he was a good person and somehow the person I needed right now. We joined the rest of our collegues and ordered shots. I wasn't a huge fan of whiskey but tonight like every other night where I drank strong liquor, I needed to escape, to forget.
After my tenth shot, I started feeling light-headed. I wanted Patrick to take me home as I didn't take my car but he was nowhere in sight, I proceeded to search for him but someone grabbed from behind.
EXTERNAL POINT OF VIEW
It had been a month, a month since he hadn't seen or heard from her. To be honest he was worried eversince he picked her semi-conscious self on the hard concrete of the grave yard, he was constantly worried for her. He wanted to be closer to her, to help her heal, to be the one to mend her.
Tonight, he had decided to celebrate his entry into college, majoring Literature. He was drinking with a couple of friends when in the ocean of people dancing on the dance floor, he caught a glimpse of her, he had a double take as the view of her looked more like a mirage than reality. He always thought that fate had an odd way of toying with him; giving him occasions to cherish life once more only to take them back once he gets attached. Just to be sure that he wasn't hallucinating, he decided to follow the woman who was unwillingly taking a place in his mind. Unsurprisingly, he lost her in the mist of all people but his search wasn't quite unsuccessful; instead of Elisabeth, Namjoon found his cheat of a -what he assumed- boyfriend : Patrick. He knew that Elisabeth won't feel unfazed if she saw him grossly making out in one of the sofas, thus he resumed searching for her now with much more urgency.
He was more relieved than glad when he found her. Namjoon was a little bit taken aback when he saw her; he noticed how paled she was despite the poor lighting in the club, the sacks under her eyes and her overall numbness, the little energy she managed to muster when they met was now gone.
"Namjoon ?"
"Elisabeth, it's been a while ! It's too loud in here mind to come outside?"
"No- I'm looking for a friend- Wait-"
He didn't let her finish her sentence as he dragged her out of the club. Once Namjoon was sure that Patrick was out of side, he let go of her. Elisabeth looked upset that he took her out but he knew it was best for her.
"Sorry for taking you out like that, it was just too loud in there."
Her lack of response was expected but he would lie if he said it didn't affect him a tad bit.
"It's been a while, how have you been?"
"Well I was fine till you dragged me out like a thief. It's chilly out here."
Elisabeth rubbed her hands down her bare arms in an attempt to warm herself. She instantly stopped when saw Namjoon taking off his coat.
"Oh no, I have already taken a pull-over from you, I am not taking your coat."
He forced his coat on her as he chuckled,
"Don't be silly, I can barely feel the cold unlike you. You are so thin that I'm scared that the wind might carry you away any moment."
"Ha-ha. So funny, but it's true that you really muscular why did I not notice that before ?"
It was now obvious that Elisabeth was drunk as she leaned in an felt Namjoon's biceps and pectoral muscles under her palms. Embarassed, Namjoon took her hands pulling her closer to him,
"Don't do that Eli."
Alcohol either gave Elisabeth a surge of courage she didn't know she held within or made her lost her mind completely. She looked at Namjoon flirteously and she leaned in, closing the space between them.
"Why not Mr. Kim Namjoon ?"
Namjoon had to knock some sense within him inorder to keep his cool. He had to admit that he loved the way his name rolled on her soft lips and that he would like to make her say it in a thousand different ways and pitches but now wasn't the moment. He managed to call a cab for her as she slowly dozed off on his comfortable torso. They were about to leave when Patrick emerged out of the club. Upon seeing him, Namjoon led an almost unconscious Elisabeth towards the car before turning to the man. Namjoon wasn't the violent type but if need was he could throw a punch. Which he did with Patrick, square in the face.
"Let me make this clear. If the asshole that you are isn't capable of not cheating on her. Leave Elisabeth the hell alone!"
With that he joined Elisabeth and left.
