Chapter One - Don't Count on it, Captain Man

RAY'S POV

I didn't expect him to take the offer. Nor did I really want him to. It was more like I needed him to.

Henry looked at me dead in the eyes after I said the words to him. "Are you serious?" he said. "Are you frickin serious? I quit for a reason, and now you want me back? For what?"

"Kid, hear me out." I said, "I feel like there's something coming, and you're the only one I know who can help me stop it."

"Ray, I don't even live in Swellview anymore. I have my own life, and just because you feel like there's something coming doesn't mean it is. If you want me to join your team, don't count on it, Captain Man."

And then he started walking away.

"Kid, wait." I tried to get him to stop to no avail. He grabbed a small disc out of his pocket and threw it. A portal into a city opened.

"Before I go." Henry said, "Take this." Henry handed me a piece of paper. "It has some names you might want to look into if you're going to form a team." And then he walked through the portal and disappeared, leaving me alone outside of the destroyed Junk n' Stuff building. I opened the folded piece of paper he gave me.

Lula Elena Chapa de Silva – Age 13 – Possible power: Electrokinesis

Bose O'Brian – Age 15 – Possible power: Telekinesis

Miles Macklin – Age 14 – Possible Power: Teleportation

Mika Macklin – Age 14 – Possible Power: Sonic Scream

I didn't recognize a single name on the list but decided to look into it anyway. I walked all the way to the abandoned school on the mountain, and up to the Man's Nest, the new headquarters that Schwoz had been building since Henry became my sidekick. I walked through the doors, and sure enough, Schwoz was there to greet me.

"Did you find him?" Schwoz said.

"Yeah," I said back to him, "He said no, but he gave me this." I handed Schwoz the paper. "Hack into the school computer system and find these kids."

"On it."

CHAPA'S POV

I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock. I immediately got dressed and started searching for my phone. I didn't remember what the boy who stole it looked like, nor did I have a picture, but I knew he was here somewhere.

As I walked down the street, I saw about ten big men with guns walk into the bank. I heard a lot of screaming, so I ran over to see what was going on. I saw the place being shot up by the men with guns, and then I noticed my hands beginning to spark. This had been happening since the gas leak, but I figured I could use it to help.

I grabbed a pair of sunglasses out of my pocket and pulled my hood up. Then I walked into the bank. I was immediately noticed and then shot at. I controlled the sparks on my hands and used it to destroy all the bullets. I then knocked out two of the guys with lightning bolts. The other eight then began to run, which gave me the chance to knock five more of them out.

The remaining three surrendered and the police sirens were beginning to be heard. I ran out of the building through the back way as quickly as I could, and then immediately back home. Screw phone hunting, I just stopped a real crime.

But nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could know it was me.

RAY'S POV

I watched the security footage with Schwoz.

"So that's her?" I asked.

"That's her. The pictures line up." Schwoz said.

"Great. I'll go visit her in her house."

"Good luck."

CHAPA'S POV

Oh god, oh god, oh god. I was literally freaking out over what just happened.

Suddenly, I noticed something in my window. "Who's there?" I said. Then a man came bursting through my window.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!" Then the man turned around. "Captain Man?"

"That's right kid. Now I'm gonna make this quick. I know what happened at the bank today. I'm forming a team. A team of heroes. What you did today was amazing. I think you should be on the team. So, what do you say?"

"Um... I'm in."

"Good. Report to the abandoned school on the mountain tomorrow."

"Why there?"

"Just go."

"Oh-kay then."

Then he left.

That was weird and exciting at the same time. Guess I'm going to the abandoned school tomorrow.
