okay sure, redigit said the whole "guide is wall of flesh, son of moon lord, brother of the ninja inside king slime and great grandson of the nymph" and whatever, but here is REAL evidence on why.
1: he says him and the zoologist/clothier have a lot in common.
i want to talk about the zoologist mostly. i mean, they don't seem so similar, do they (please queue the "wof is a canon furry" jokes)? but wait! zoologist turns into a MONSTER during full moons. guide TURNS into a MONSTER when you drop his voodoo doll into lava. makes sense, ya know???
also the clothier is cursed by skeletron and what not, and i guess guide is cursed to be wof idk
2: he doesn't like the ocean biome
what is the underworld? ash and lava. what is the ocean? literally the opposite. he wouldn't like it, because he's wall of flesh, and wof likes his magma, not his water.
3: the princess supposedly "lifted his curse"
literally not much else to say here, except that she makes him feel better about being wof.
4: he prefers the open world
ok you could argue this is against, but i think it make sense. due to being wof, he's constantly stuck in the underworld, so being able to go outside is probably a gift for him.
5; "i wonder why my predecessor burst into flames. i hope that doesn't happen to me..."
this is one of his interaction quotes in hardmode, POST-WALL OF FLESH. yes, the whole "order of the guide" thing, but listen to me. he burst into flames, because wof left the body and became his true self, causing it to burst into flames.
6: "i feel something very evil calling out to me."
he says this in the graveyard biome. the underworld is full of evil souls, the tax collector literally is one. the graveyard reminds him of the underworld.
7: he hates the painter because "the world is fine the way it was made"
wall of flesh is known as "the master and core of the world". if he's the master, and painter is changing shit up, he won't like that. in fact, he may just possibly hate it.

ok but fr here's a theory why the guide always opens the door:
because he's wall of flesh, he doesn't fear monsters. he lets them in casually. sure, he's a nice guy and tells the player to stay safe, but the monsters don't recognise him so he kinda has to fight back.

guide is wall of flesh, and he thinks him and zoologist have a lot in common. they totally date. because of that, guide became a furry. guide is wall of flesh. wall of flesh is furry. also wof's in-game cry sounds like "owo" over and over again.
yes, i know furries aren't all just "owo", but that's just something to consider.
