Darius_mclain, of New Zealand, is one of the best Wattpad® poets I have had the luck of coming across so far. She is motivated and loves to write, like all of us I guess.

When asked if she could stop one thing in this world it would be, she replied “That question really got me thinking. I would say that I'd wish for no sickness, but the world won't be the same and people just start to take everything for granted. Besides, nothing lasts forever. My opinion is that there's only 4 things that make the world complicated; money, power, greed and love. Not many of you would agree with me, but if I could change the world--one thing about the world, I would want people to find inner peace. STOP THE WARS!!!”

When I asked if there was anything she would like to say to her wonderful fans out there, she reapplied “Well. Here I am, a socially awkward teenager who goes on Wattpad all day and all night because I'm just like that and I don't have a life :/ I'm generally really friendly, so if you want a chat buddy or anything, don't hesitate, I don't bite ;) I also fan back everyone.

I am music-obsessed and I can't--just can't--live without music. I would die, and if literature were to vanish from the face of the Earth... x_x I'm good as dead.

I mostly write poetry, but every once in a while pops out a few short stories, most of which I don't publish because I never get to finish them, or even when I do, they're not up to standard. The former happens more often though.

I talk a lot. But I’m still socially awkward and in really uncomfortable situations, I can only manage embarrassing words such as, “Oh rubbish” or “I don’t know” or there is a high possibility that I will just lose my grip on reality and just burst out in random hysterics (happens a lot to me).

I adore smiley faces and I hardly ever use sentences without them J Lol

Yeah. You probably don’t care, and most of you probably stopped reading after the second point, but whatever. Hey stalker that actually read the whole thing (kidding), if you want to read more about me, go to my profile :3

See you, my fellow Wattpaders ;)”

She really is a truly kind person!

I had the honour of interviewing her and this is how it went:

Where does your inspiration come from?

Mostly music, as I practically live off melody and lyrics, but there are other things I consider inspiring. My friend@kebabwoman inspires me a lot, especially when I’m struck down with writer’s block and irritable, basically when I’m in a yuck mood. I also like to think of myself as a sponge, I read and absorb--like a sponge, and I use that as inspiration :) Sometimes just looking around does the trick too, it really depends

Does anyone help you? (Helps you come up with characters by the way they act)

@kebabwoman and I collaborate a lot, we help each other with our own worlds, and sometimes we like to merge our ideas and create a ‘shared’ world as such. She’s a really fun person to talk to, and she never hesitates to help :D

Is the help intentional?

Also, like my inspiration, sometimes I help base my characters on the character’s I’ve read about (loosely of course, because otherwise that’s plagiarism

Do you have an editor?

Almost 99% of the time, I edit my own work but sometimes I do hand it over to@kebabwoman, in case I missed out some really miniscule details and errors. Whenever I’m unsure about something, from spelling to grammar to dialogue, I turn to@kebabwoman and my dear friend Zeb :) They’re amazing

Do you want to write professionally later on in life?

Of course, I’d love to be able to write professionally in the future! Except for music, I live to read and write. I even heard from my parents that the first thing I picked up as a toddler was a pen. A pen. Wow. I think it’s meant to be :’)

I would really love to, but at the moment, I’m not skilled enough, which is what Wattpad is for :) I post stories and you great guys out there comment and give me feedback, sometimes throw me the occasional star, you know… :3

If you aren’t able to become a writer, what else would you like you like to do and why?

Well, I’m going to pursue a path in law, but I would really want to try juggling that and writing when I grow up. I dunno, I’ll manage some sort of crazy schedule later on ;)

Who is your favourite writer(s) on Wattpad®?

ARGH!! Hard question alert!! I have come across so many many many talented and amazing writers on Wattpad, and 99.99% make my work look paler than the gibbon moon! And you know what, I’m not afraid to admit that because I’m not all that good anyway haha

Bear in mind that this is really hard for me. Of the stories I’ve read online, I would say that I look up to @mica_blue and @ToastedBagels, but also @WhatAWonderfulWorld because she is just plain awesome, and I think she deserves WAAY more attention than she’s getting :) Check her work out, you won’t be disappointed

What is your favourite book(s) on Wattpad®?

That is another toughie. There are at least a hundred that I would love to praise and recommend right now, but that would kill you off. Here are a handful that I think you should definitely read:

-Bedroom Window View by@mica_blue

- The Way I Love You by@kebabwoman

- The Accidental Tourists by@ToastedBagels

Phew. That’s narrow enough...I think. Haha, I’m serious though, these are worth checking out. You won’t regret it ;)

Do you have any tips for people who want to write a book?

Personally, I don’t think I’m the best person to ask that. I have more than a bucketful of unfinished/abandoned/failed book ideas that I would’ve loved to write out, but I just somehow lost the magic along the way.

I would just like to say, plan light and easy and let the writing do the work. Don’t kill yourself trying to plan every single little detail, because truth is, half of the people reading it won’t care if that guy walking down the street had blonde hair blue eyes and six sisters at home--maybe. Or if that person sitting next to you in the bus stop happened to be a long lost relative of Michael Jackson--well, maybe. (Some exceptions included.) My point is, don’t overwork yourself trying to add in unnecessary details that will bore the readers to death, or worse still, make them start skimming through the beautifully laid out paragraphs that you’ve worked hard on.

Probably really bad advice there, but that’s my observation at least. If you want REAL advice, subscribe to WRITEtoDONE newsletters (can’t remember the website for it sorry, but just Google it). One word. They’re GREAT

So as we can tell from the wonderful poems she writes, it would do us no harm to take five minutes out of our lives and read a poem or two!
