Chapter 1
~Milly~
“Neigh, Neigh, Neigh” my alarm clock screamed.
Shit. I was going to be late.
I grabbed my backpack from the floor near the door, jammed a pencil in a random pocket, and shoved my AP English reading book in just as fast, only giving a quick thought as to who would be our sub again today, for the third week in a row. I rushed out the front door, locking it from the inside and then slamming it shut. I realized that I might have woken up my parents, but I seemed to show no care as I closed the door of my Jeep loudly as well. After all, I had to get to school on time if I didn’t want to face detention.
I was just able to slip into the science building as the old school bell dinged its crazy head off. I walked briskly to the end of the building, reaching the last classroom and as I pulled open the door, my classmates’ heads whisked in my direction.
“What?” I mouthed, as I quickly got into my individual seat. The morning light shined through the glass panel windows and on Ms. Casanova, my earth science teacher as she walked towards the front of the class. She menacingly glazed at me through her red-rimmed glasses.
“Nice of you to join us Ms. Starstear. Don’t be late next time.”
“It was only a few seconds...” I mumbled.
“That was the late bell, Ms. Starstear.”I groaned as I ducked my head under my arms.
“Now, you will have to present to us the topic we will be reading on today, on the formation of the earth’s layers and what exactly happened. I expect a detailed report by the end of class, Ms.Starstear.”
Today was going to be a long day. A long, boring, dull day.
“OK class today we will begin....” Ms.Casanova’s voice drifted away as I turned to look outside, thinking about how much I would rather be outside, in a forest somewhere. Galloping and doing jumps, running free. Why do I have to go to this stupid human school and learn these stupid human things? Sure, I’m human, but it’s not like I will ever use these useless skills in the world I live in.
A high frequency sound rang in my head. A connection, must be my mom. Oh, God. She definitely had ways to check up on me.
Malisha Starstear you were late again. And are you even working on the assignment your teacher gave you? I suddenly heard in my mind. This is why it’s hard having a mother that can read minds and ring in connections anytime they want.
No I'm not mom, I'm thinking about stuff. I'm sorry; I should be doing my work. I will start right away OK? I responded.
It would be OK if they’re wasn’t five minutes of class left. Here are the answers young lady you owe me. Write this down. ~
The molten debris was attracted by gravity to our sun during the formation of our solar system and formed what is now our planet the varying density and other properties of the materials in each layer allowed some of them to remain molten as they cooled while others hardened, making the Ferraro Roche style planet we know and love. Think about how the metal mercury stays liquid at relatively low temperatures.
