"Why are you being such an asshole Jack?" We trudged up the scar with infuriated looks plastered to our faces. My legs had healed now from the many weeks of being carried. I was free to walk, but in doing so Jack had made me do so many things with him and being around him so much has just made us a little too close.
"Me? You're the one who keeps nagging me to stop bickering with piggy all the time!" I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest in annoyance.
"But you should! What's your problem with him!?" I bellowed across the scar, the birds shooting up out of the trees in surprise.
"I don't have a problem with him, he just ticks me off. He doesn't know when to stop talking! All I hear is bla bla bla!" He mimicked. It was true, piggy did talk too much, but Jack had no reason to shove him into palm trees.
"Just stop it, you're being so immature." I hurried on ahead of him, hearing his stomping hurry on after me.
"Oh look at little miss mature. So much smarter than me and quiet and sensibler than me." He muttered, twisting his face into a contorted anger filled one.
I didn't answer, to reply would be unwise and, you called it, immature.
We reached the fire. Tony, Charles and Andy were sat around it cooking a lizard and eating the leg off it. One of them said it was good but I hardly believed so.
"We're here for fire watch." Jack says. The others rolled off their sides and walked away, leaving us alone again.
I sat down first, attending the fire as my duty and poking it lightly so the fire wood knocked off into each other and set ablaze again. It was incredibly awkward, I wish I had a shovel so I could bury myself in a hole to avoid his eye contact.
"You're doing it wrong." I turned my head to face him, what exactly was I doing wrong? The fire was lit and well, did I maybe hold the stick wrong or??
"Let me do it." I rolled my eyes, finding his body swiftly move over onto my back, his bare chest confined to my body.
"Jack, I can do it myself." I groaned, put he wrapped his hands around mine and poked the fire with it forcefully, his hands digging into my fingernails.
He ignored me and kept on. I let him though, Jack was Jack and I couldn't do anything about it.
He looked down to examine me, watching his eyes search my face longingly. We both stared at each other for a couple of, I'd like to say nice moments, but all came to and end when Ralph came huffing up the scar to join us.
"Come to spank me for not sweeping the island Ralph?" I laughed at that, but it faded as I saw Ralph's unamused face.
"Don't bother joking, I just wanted to talk to Rey." Me?
"I'll be with you in a moment." I smiled warmly at the brunette. Jack scowled, chucking a fine piece of wood to the pile.
Ralph turned on his heels, sending a cold look to jack. The relationship between these two since we've been on this island has distanced. At the start they laughed and joked, sent high fives and fist bumps and occasionally smiled. Now they were cold and jealous, I had no help to realise that was because of me.
"Jack?" I tapped him on the shoulder, his face relaxed.
"What's your parents like?" I asked simply, apparently I stuck once another nerve when he returned to his scowling and sulked.
"I don't like to discuss them." He uttered. I accepted, feeling the cold rush of wind slap me in the face.
He breathed, opening his mouth to let words out that I long to here.
"My father sent me to military school. He said he was tired of my behaviour and it needed controlling, so he sent me away so I wouldn't have to ever see his stupid face again." I never realised. Sometimes the behaviour of people who joke and laugh and tease all the time, hide their true emotions and secrets of their personal life. Jack was one of those people.
I put a comforting hand on his shoulder and massaged my way into his chest.
"I'm so sorry Jack, I never knew."
"Don't be sorry, I'm glad I don't see him. He's strict and unpleasant to be with. We never shared any sort of.. affection or even a laugh." I let out of his warmth, cupping his cheek and running my hands through his Sandy hair.
"Well, I have to go now. Talk soon?" He nodded as I swept away, leaving him to watch the fire as instructed, our shift wasn't over yet so hopefully I should be back in time to get back to jack and have that little talk.I found Ralph just below the cliff, jack right above me and in ear shot, hopefully this conversation doesn't involve much tongue tying.
"What did you want to say Ralph?" He turned around, his face was red and blotchy, to say he'd been.. crying?
"Ralph?" His back was turned to me, he rested his arms against the rock side and softly lays his head onto it.
I crept up to him, observing him closely.
"Me or him." I pondered, he knew. I didn't have words.
"Me, or him." He gritted his teeth, his jaw clenched and fists balled tightly.
"Oh Ralph, I can't-" He cut my off mid sentence, focusing his attention back on me.
"You can. If it's me then choose me, show me you choose me. If it's him then go up that scar and show you choose him, it's clear who it is." He rolled his eyes away.
It was true, I didn't know who to choose. But I don't think that was an option.
It wasn't. Ralph shoved me to the wall, his brown eyes glimmering harshly at me.
"Ralph, you know I can't choose. I like both of you."
His head flickered away in annoyance, not accepting my answer.
"You asking me really isn't helping this Ralph." Arguing with him was pointless, there was nothing I could do to stop him hurting. I did have options though.I could leave them both and not hurt anyone, choose jack, choose Ralph or just simply choose someone else. Hell, I could just choose Simon. No, he's a year younger than me and he's far too mature. Piggy, no, just no. Roger? Don't even get me started.
"Just give me time to think okay?" His hand was still under my chin, his other arm to the wall to refrain me from moving any further. I was suddenly pushed back, the tension drifting away from Ralph and I's conversation.
Jack pulled me away from Ralph, his forceful hands pushing me towards the ocean, nearly falling over.
"Hey man what's your deal?!" Jack yelled, his hands waving in the air. The two were stood against each other, like they were just about to start a fight. God this was so intense.
"What's this about?" Jack asked, however calmly.
"She likes you! But kissed me! And she kissed you as well! She's screwing around with the both of us and she's not choosing any of us because apparently she 'can't'" Ralph yelled. I saw the sadness wash over in his eyes, have I really hurt him that much?
"I know she's kissing me, I saw she was kissing you. Yeah, it might not be fair, but it sure is clear she likes me more than you!" Not true. I didn't like anyone more than the other. God on this whole island I never get a say in anything!
I stood up, pushing through the both of them just before Jack was about to take a strike on Ralph.
"GUYS! STOP!" I yelled, bringing them apart, Ralph's back pushing against the rocks and jack collapsing on the sand with my force.
"I think I get a say in this don't i? I mean come on! You've done this ever since I got here, I said I don't know who to go for, and that's final! Just give me time and I'll sort it out when I actually think about it!" I growled, so exhausted from laughing and lack of sleep that I fell against the rock myself.
Jack sighed, Ralph just looked motionless to me, waiting for an answer he so desperately wanted. Unfortunately, I couldn't deliver that to him. But I did wish I could.
The least I could do is offer them both a soft smile.
Ralph returned a curl of the mouth, on the other hand jack only stood to turn and walk off. Typical merridew.
"I'm going hunting." He huffed, turned towards the forest and silently walked away.
No one by the fire, auto pilot enabled.
Me and Ralph were the only ones left, I forgot all I had to do or what just happened and left it aside. I felt guilty about my foolish actions, I mean, you could only have one of them. I came up to Ralph and wrapped my arms around his neck, playfully running my fingers up his arm and tickling him under the neck, letting out a laugh. Expecting it back, he surrounding me with his arms and pulled me down the sand, laughter filling the void as the sea crept up further to the sand, the tide was coming in.
We lay there fighting for a while, feeling the cold water rush over us and soaking us through. I squealed, surprised by the cold shock. Ralph grinned and scooped me up in the sand and chucked me into the wide ocean, leaving me to sink down and shoot back up with a swift bounce of my toes. I opened my mouth as a gate and allowed water to spit out like a fountain to Ralph's face. This was an invitation to him as he piled a huge wave of water over the top of me, I accepted and shoved an even larger amount over him, washing him through. The salt was in his eyes, he no longer could see what my next attack was going to be. I swam deep under the water and grabbed his feet, dragging him along the waves and finally letting him free as the waves were growing stronger. I bobbed over the waves skilfully, laughing as Ralph struggled to swim over to me with the strong current.
We crept along the sand, knees scratching against its rough texture and finally shuffled up in front of the sun to watch it dance. My hair bled onto my back, like little pins dropping painfully and coldly.
Auto pilot disabled.
Despite all the things that had occurred lately, the happiness affecting me now made me realise that there was so much more opportunities to have more fun times like this here, I mean come on for godsake I was on an island! Paradise!
