Chapter Forty-Nine
Dhampir
Edythe Cullen
August 21, 2006

"Alice, slow down, you're not making any sense." I begged her, her frightened tone of voice putting my own nerves on edge, as I pushed Garrett off of me.

"What's going on?" Garrett worried, hearing Alice's panic.

"I don't know, someone's hurt I think, but she won't slow down." I relayed to him before putting the phone back to my ear. "Alice, I need you to calm down and explain what's happened."

Alice's voice was an octave higher than usual, "They were ambushed!" She gasped, finally slowing down enough for me to distinguish her words.

"Who was ambushed? What happened?" I worried, thoughts of my brother and his new wife all alone on an island without anyone nearby to help. "Edward-"

"No! No! It's Mom and Dad!" She wailed and I froze up with fear. "They were out hunting in the Irish countryside. I saw them being hunted down by two nomads and tried to call and warn them but the connection was too bad! Carlisle was decapitated and Liz was bitten badly. Jasper and I are on our way to them now, but it's bad Edythe!" She cried. "What do we do?"

I shook myself enough to regain some composure, "Alice, first thing you need to do is calm down. Panicking like this is going to help no one." I took deep breaths, trying to follow my own advice. "Now, second thing, you need to call Emmett and Edward and tell them what's happening. Tell them that you and Jasper are meeting me in Ireland to go and get our parents. That we'll get them as healthy as possible before bringing them home. Tell them to get home and get things in order for our return."

"We'd be ruining Edward and Bella's honeymoon." Alice sighed. "They've only been there two weeks."

"They'll have plenty of time together once Bella's changed." I reminded her. "Our parents health has to be the priority right now. They'll understand, I'm sure."

"Okay, you're right, of course." She agreed. "So then you're both coming?"

I met eyes with Garrett, questioning wether his control was strong enough to survive an international flight without incident, and he reached out his hand immediately.

"Alice, I don't think I can fly. Edythe will have to meet you alone. Do you see her having any complications flying by herself?" He worried for me and my heart swelled with love.

There was a brief moment of silence, "She'll definitely have some issues with so much human blood around her. I see her gagging and needing to escape to the bathroom often. It's been so long since you've both been hunting that she'll be very weak by the time she gets here."

I took the phone back, "I'll take my chances." I told Alice. "Mom and Dad need us now. If one of us were hurt, they'd stop at nothing to help us, and I'd be a terrible daughter if I didn't do everything in my power when they need me."

"Edythe, I have to warn you, it's...bad." Alice sighed. "My head hurts from all the changing outcomes. Mom is in horrible condition."

"I'll prepare myself for the worst then, if you think it may come to that." I threatened to sob at the thought. "Let me gather some things and I'll arrange a flight immediately."

"You're going to call Aro?" Alice questioned me worriedly. "Why?"

"I need a flight and the Volturi has all of my needed documents for travel. I have no choice." I relayed. "I'm not concerned with Aro, Alice."

"But you'll have to tell him why you're needing to travel. He'll know Dad and Mom are weak right now, that we're all separated."

"But we won't be for long." I reminded her. "Everything will be fine, Alice. I promise."
