Chapter Seventeen
Phone Call
Elizabeth Cullen
Phoenix, Arizona. March, 2005.After an uneventful evening, Bella finally fell asleep on the couch next to me with her head on my shoulder sweetly.
I lifted her gently and carried her into the bedroom to tuck her in before leaving her to rest. More uneventful hours spent doing nothing and a few polite conversations just to break up the silence later, Alice suddenly stiffened up into one of the more violent reactions to her visions I've ever seen.
"Alice!" I cried out as her head dropped forward and she convulsed in shock.
"The dark room...light...VCR." Alice muttered.
Jasper had her upright again quickly, a pen in her hand and a fresh notepad in front of her as her vision took over my own.
James, standing in a square room with dark beams across its low slanted ceiling. The walls were paneled in wood, a little too dark, out of date by a couple of decades. The floor had a dark carpet with a pattern in it, again very out of date. There was a large window against the south wall and an opening through the west wall that led to the living room he stalked into looking for something with a purposeful glint in his eye. One side of that entrance was stone, a large tan stone fireplace that was open to both rooms. The focus of the room from this perspective. The TV and VCR, balanced on a too-small wooden stand, were in the southwest corner of the room. An aged sectional sofa curved around in front of the TV, a round coffee table in front of it.
"Let's see..." James voice trailed away.
"Did she see something more?" Bella asked, suddenly over my shoulder as my mind allowed me to see both the vision and my reality now.
"Yes. Something's brought him back to the room with the VCR, but it's light now." I disclosed, trying to see what James was doing now but the vision was too dark and murky to see more. "He's searching for something, but he doesn't know what he's looking for yet? That doesn't make any sense."
"The phone goes there." Bella instructed Alice as she drew the room, pulling me out of the vision entirely as my mind snapped shut in my shock. "That's my mother's house." She revealed as Jasper, Alice, and I stared her down.
I leapt from the couch while Alice and Jasper descended on a now hysterical Bella, as I dialed Carlisle's number, I realized Jaspers arms on Bella's shoulders was making her settle down into a dull state of distress.
"Elizabeth?" Carlisle answered but I had no time to relax in the sound of his voice.
I immediately informed him of the newest development in Alice's vision, relaying every detail to him, and speaking with him quickly about their next course of action. We agreed than reconciling here in Phoenix was the best course of action to take before having the boys take Bella somewhere far off and leaving me, Alice, and Jasper to handle James here.
"Bella," I tried to get her attention after ending my call with Carlisle, but her eyes were too unfocused to meet my eyes. "Bella, Edward is coming to get you. He and Emmett and Carlisle are going to take you somewhere, to hide you for a while." I explained to her carefully as I crouched on the floor in front of her.
"Edward is coming?" She asked, still dazed as Jasper lifted his hands off of her shoulders carefully, Alice still bracing her other side.
"Yes, he's catching the first flight out of Seattle. We'll meet him at the airport, and you'll leave with him." I tried to soothe her.
"But, my mother... he came here for my mother, Elizabeth!" She gasped in pain, Jasper's hands quickly returning to her shoulders as he focused on calming her down.
