Chapter 3- Our Visitor

We got to Esme's and Carlisle's sooner than I expected. I never thought we would be able to leave the house with all Jacob's groaning, moaning and groaching. I was so close to putting my foot in his mouth and tell him to get a move on. But I let it slip by.

"Bella, it's so good to see you guys." Esme said in her angelic motherly voice, but I knew she had little interest in embracing me in a hug, she was just being the polite mother she was. Instead her gaze was fully focussed on her granddaughter Renesmee, in which she hasn't seen in yonks!

Edward slipped his arm around my waist tightly before whispering in my ear. "I'm going back with Jake, Jasper, Emmet and Carlisle to get a whip of the scent, I'll be back soon." He kissed the top of my forehead which left me longing for more.

"Wait," I tugged onto his grey checked shirt. "I'm coming, I need to be familiar with it as well."

"You'll be able to get the scent off me later, love." he assured me, cupping my face in his hands. "Plus," he added with a smirk on his face, gazing behind me. "Alice has been waiting for you." And he was gone before I could even begin to debate.

"That frown better not be on your face because you're left with me." Alice said sharply.

"Of course not," I pulled her into a long hug that I've been missing. "I just wish I could be apart of it you know?" I said eyeing the direction in which the boys were running, knowing that were long out of hearing range. "I feel like he just doesn't want to get me involved sometimes."

Alice let out a high, soft laugh. "It's nothing to worry about Bella, but you know Edward, he always likes taking precautions plus, between you and me, sometimes I think he forgets how durable you really are."

I waved it off, not wanting it to sit on my shoulders for much longer.

"So the unknown vampire was really just a trespasser? You've seen it?" I asked confirming that that's what she had meant by saying 'it's nothing to worry about.'

Alice creased her eyebrows together and shook her head slowly looking out into the thin air. She sighed before answering, "No," she closed her eyes tightly, "the problem is I haven't seen anything, it's really driving me insane. I can't see the 'trespasser' as you call it, I can't tell if they are coming back or not."

"Well surely that's because you're unfamiliar with the scent?" I asked, making it sound like more of a statement than a question.

She let out a nod but I knew it was bugging her that she couldn't help in the way that was expected of her.

"But," she added, her index finger held up high. "I did see something."

I looked at her, confused, waiting for her to carry on.

"I saw Nessie not having much of a wedding." Alice said sadly turning her face into a puppy dog face.

This was not the road that I was expecting it to take. I assumed that Alice was just trying to distract me and stop me from worrying as I usually do. But, knowing Alice, the wedding was probably bothering her more than her not being able to see the 'unknown guest'.

"That's something you're going to have to take up with your neice." I shrugged, "but please try to understand where she comes from. Listen to the brides and grooms request." I pleaded, feeling sincerely sorry for Renesmee knowing that seven years ago I was in her position. And my plan to run off to Vegas to get married to Edward did not at all work out.

The guys arrived one hour later. Taking much longer than I anticipated. I suspect that they stopped along the way to do whatever they do in their spare times. Hunt. Play fight. Arm wrestle. Beats me. It coudn't have taken more than a few minutes for Jacob and Edward to get familiar with the scent.
