hey guys! so this fanfic was originally just an idea i had, and it was only going to be for my friend as well as myself since i haven't seen any sang-woo x reader fanfics yet. i want to expand it now since i think it would be fun. however, since i posted an excerpt from the middle of the book, i need to write the chapters preceding it before i get to the good stuff. thanks for being patient with me and i hope you enjoy. if i get any details wrong please let me know :) i also might edit the chapters every once in a while, since i typed them up quickly. this story is far from over!

This whole place felt like a dream. Everything that had happened so far. You wouldn't believe it, and tried to tell yourself you were simply dreaming with your eyes open. The first game seemed simple enough. When you were told players would be eliminated from failing to obey the rules of red light, green light, you thought they would be sent home; nothing more. Hearing the gun go off and the thud of the first body fall to the floor sent a chill down your spine. You wouldn't forget that mental image of all the bodies piled up by the door for the rest of your life.
It had been two days since you had arrived at the unknown location where the games took place. You hadn't expected it to be easy since money was the prize for winning a few kids' games, but seeing so many people massacred in front of you was not even close to what you had in mind. You were surprised at the fact that you were one of the few to finish first for red light, green light, and felt a small sense of pride about it. However, you couldn't get too comfortable, and distractions were obviously not allowed. Keeping to yourself to avoid them wasn't hard, you had done that for most of your life. Besides, you didn't know any of these people. Or so you thought.
The announcer broke the silence of the room, informing the players that the second game was about to begin. The air suddenly started to feel stagnant and thick, almost making you not able to breathe. Taking a look around, you noticed the room was still filled with numerous beds, but there were noticeably fewer there compared to the first day. Images of bodies falling to the ground during red light, green light came flashing in your mind, and you had to shake your head to rid yourself of the memories.
The guards at the front of the room began to lead everyone to the location of the second game, and you couldn't help but feel nervous, wondering what was coming next that would decide your fate. Once you finally got to the room, your eyes scanned over all of the decor, noticing how it resembled a child's playground.
While you were observing your surroundings, you locked eyes with someone you thought you'd never see again, and not even ten feet from him was his best friend. Flashbacks from your childhood flooded your vision: You, Gi-hun, and Sang-woo running through the streets, playing silly games, and making bets on who could run home the fastest. You never imagined you would finally meet them again here, of all places. How had you not noticed them before? Your raw emotions shone through your eyes: confusion, sadness, love, fear. Sang-woo picked up on every detail.
Gi-hun notices Sang-woo's attention is elsewhere and follows his gaze to be greeted by your shocked expression. He feels his heart thump in his chest. 'Why is she here? How could she even end up here?' Gi-hun thought you were doing well, at least had a job. He didn't want to see you here, especially because the games could result in death from one minor mistake.
Sang-woo was the first to start walking up towards you, and Gi-hun followed. They both pardoned themselves from the group they were standing with, causing more eyes to fall on you. Once they reached you, you started to feel dizzy.
"Hey, y/n. So it is you. Long time no see." Sang-woo half-heartedly smiled, and you tried to compose yourself, glancing at Gi-hun. He was watching you intently as if his gaze could protect you from the harshness of this place.
