Cynthia's P.O.V

I turned around, and my breath hitched in my throat again, knowing how much he hated me. He must be looking for a chance to ruin my reputation, and this is the perfect way for him to do it.

"What does it look like?" Noah replied as I looked at him with nothing but fear in my eyes. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to help Suzanne but also myself too; she has already suffered a lot, and I won't let her suffer because of me too now.

"You run; I'll handle things here, " I whispered closely to her, ensuring she was safe before I looked for a way to save myself.

"Leave them alone, I'm warning you," Issac said, and I was left staring at him with nothing but confusion in my eyes.

"What? I thought you hated her; don't you want her dead?" Noah turned around completely to him while I looked for a chance to run away.

"You don't have a say in whatever I want with her" Issac stood over him, shadowing Noah down because of his height. For the first, I got a sense of security from someone I never thought would even look me in the eyes.

"So now we're not brothers?" Noah's voice seemed lost, but he recovered as soon as he realized the whole gang was there.

"Cynthia, you guys leave; I'll take care of things here," Issac said, and I had to pinch myself to look away from his eyes. For some reason, he looked even more intimidating than he had ever looked at school.

"Come" Suzanne grabbed my hand and dragged me with her as Issac kept on staring into my eyes.

"Dude, what the heck? Stop interfering-"

"Shut the fuck up" I could hear Issac's last words before the voices faded out, and we made our way back inside the class.

"I'm so sorry, Cynthia, I-I don't-"

Author's P.O.V

"Shhh, It's okay. Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Cynthia grabbed both her arms tightly, inspecting her from up to down. Cynthia never wanted her friends to get hurt, and so did Suzanne, especially when Cynthia had done that much for her.

"Of course I'm okay" Suzanne's lips turned to a bright smile, looking at her friend, who seemed overly concerned for her. Suzanne might've been grateful for a friend like Cynthia, but Cynthia herself was more grateful for Suzanne, who, no matter what, refused to give in to Noah's threats.

"That's a relief" Cynthia was glad to see Suzanne happy and in good condition as she smiled at her beloved friend and left her inside the class before making her way out. She was about to sneak out of the school again when her footsteps halted in one place.

"Where do you think you're going?" Issac's voice bloomed through the hallways, and as if her heart could see life again, it beat ever so frantically.

"You- How- Oh my god, are you okay?" Cynthia freaked out when she saw blood on the corner of his forehead, right above his left eye.

"Apart from me freaking out looking at you freaking out, I'm great" Isaac's sense of humor was still the same even though it was clear that he got hit in the head.

"Let's go to the nurse-"

"And what will she do? Put ice? You can do that too" Cynthia looked at him with her eyes concentrated on his; she was confused about whether to smack his forehead over his statement or to smile.

"You're lucky you're hurt", Cynthia replied and dragged him to the nurse's as the nurse looked at the two, wondering how the heck they were getting along, something even Cynthia didn't know.

Once the nurse was done, they both went outside and to the back of the school, where rarely anyone goes to. The tension in the air was thick as Cynthia gathered up her courage to thank her savior.

"Uhm, thank you for, you know, back there-"

"Yeah, had to save your petty little ass from my toxic friends" And there comes the old Isaac back with his crude remarks, but somehow Cynthia wasn't offended but instead had a tiny curl dancing over her lips.

"Seriously though, ask Noah to stay the damn away from Suzanne; relationships don't work like this," Cynthia was serious this time; anyone could see it from the kind of expression she had plastered over her face.

"I've told him a thousand times to stay away from her, but now I can see that there is a valid reason he's stuck around this long for her." Issac tries to back his toxic friend up, but Cynthia could see a little bit of empathy dangling around in Issac's eyes that spoke crystal clear about how much he wanted them to break off.

"And that reason would be?" Cynthia asked, her eyes shining with curiosity as Issac looked at her.

"His father" Issac went into a silent mode after that, and as if everything hit her like a train, Cynthia nodded.

"Though I don't know the entire story, nothing can ever be a genuine excuse for physical abuse, and you should know this."

"I know; that's the only way he takes his anger out of himself."

"Whatever, I'm keeping her safe from now on. I don't care if it costs my life; my brother is enough to kick his ass for it."

"So you're one of the boys?" Issac diverted the entire attention to an entirely new topic that sincerely caught Cynthia off guard.

"What do you mean?" Cynthia smiled a little bit as she looked over at Issac, who also seemed quite adorable when smiling.

"Racing cars, cursing, fighting, literally your ambiance stands for being 'one of the boys' " Issac rolled his eyes as he rested his back on the tree.

"Yeah, was never the type to meddle with the popular girls" Cynthia heaved out a huge sigh which caught Issac off guard this time.

"And what made you transfer here?" Issac tried to keep the lighthearted conversation ongoing that seemed to be something rare between the cat and mouse game.

"Just a few personal wishes to fulfill"

"One of them being related to that necklace I was wearing, right?" Issac pointed out the only thing Cynthia would never have thought to hear from someone this soon.

"Wha-"
