— It's time for the next game. This one requires teams of ten and has a time limit of 10 minutes, we'll explain the rules later after you form your groups, says a guard.
I guess it's good that we joined Gi-hun's team after all.
— We're only 5, says the guy whose name is Sang-woo I think.
— The old man is in our team too, so we're 6, says Gi-hun.
— Him? But Gi-hun, he's too old. We don't know what we'll be doing yet, so we have to be careful. What about them? he says looking at me and Sae-Byeok. They're in our team too?
Gi-hun nods.
— Gi-hun, two girls are too much! We need more men, Sang-woo says.
— What are you, gay? I ask sarcastically.
Sang-woo shakes his head annoyed and sights.
— Okay, everyone, except you old man, go find someone to join our group. No girls, he says looking at me and Sae-Byeok.
I scoff. Who does this sexist asshole think he is?
Sae-Byeok and me go around asking people to join us.
— Hey, I'm going over there to those men okay? she says.
— Okay, I'm going in the opposite direction then, I say.
She nods and I turn around, seeing a girl sitting on the stairs.
— Hi, I say approaching her, would you like to join my team?
— And why? she asks.
— Well we need more people and it's not like you have a team already, right? I say.
— Okay I guess, she says.
I give her my hand to help her stand up as I see Sae-Byeok walking towards me with a man.
— He's on our team, she says. And who's that? she says looking at the girl.
— This is uhm.. What's your name? I ask.
— Ji-yeong, she says.
— This is Ji-yeong! She'll be on our team too, I say.
— Did you not hear what that guy Sang-woo said? We don't need other girls, she says giving Ji-yeong a sharp look.
— Woah, calm down Sae, I say.
— Sae?
— Oh, did I just call you Sae? Sorry, it came out of nowhere, I say.
— It's okay.. You can call me that, if you want to, she says looking away. Anyways, aren't you worried about what Sang-woo will say?
— Who's this Sang-woo? asks Ji-yeong.
— None of your business.
— Sae-Byeok, what is wrong with you? What's with this attitude? I say.
— I don't know, what's with you suddenly wanting another girl in our team? she says.
— What.. She was sitting here alone! I think you can imagine what happens to people who aren't in a team when the game starts, I say.
— So? Why do you suddenly care about some random girl dying? I bet you wouldn't care about me dying as much as you care about her dying, she says.
Her words cut right through my heart. Why is she acting like this?
— Whatever, I say. Let's go, Ji-yeong.
— I'm curious about what Sang-woo's gonna say about this, says Sae-Byeok.
— Well I'll just fucking find another team if he's not okay with it, I scream.
