— Sae...
— What.. What is going on? Why are you holding the knife? Is that blood on it?
She comes closer and I look down, not knowing what to say.
She walks past me and I hear her screaming.
— No! What did you do, Y/n? Did you kill Gi-hun? she asks terrified.
She quickly looks at the other side of the room and sees that Sang-woo is dead too.
— Sae listen..
I try touching her cheek but she steps back.
No. This isn't what I wanted. I didn't want her to be scared of me.
— Sae, you're... incredible. You have a brother and your mom out there, waiting for you and you shouldn't keep them waiting too long. Please, go out there and live a wonderful life, for me. Only one person can win, and that's going to be you.
— What.. Oh no. No, no, no. Y/n, put that knife down. You're not doing this to me. We're going to figure this out another way, okay love? Just put the knife down.
— Sae, I have no one. No one to go back to, everyone left me. There's no reason for me to stay alive, I say.
— You have me. And I don't deserve you, someone so courageous, brave and just.. perfect. I'm not like you, not like you at all. But as dark as I am, I will always find enough light to adore you to pieces, with all my pieces. Please, don't do anything stupid.
— I'm so sorry Sae. I love you.
Sae-Byeok's POV
I see Y/n putting the knife to her neck and I quickly run, jumping on her and taking the knife from her hand and throwing it away.
— Are you stupid? Stupid, stupid! I scream at her crying. How can you even think about doing this?! Do you have any idea how much I love you!? Do you think I'd be able to live without you? No! Dumbass, I'd kill myself too if you died!
She looks at me, wide-eyed.
— What? Why do you look so shocked, huh? Do you think I wouldn't? Well trust me, I would, I say.
She starts crying too and I hug her.
— Sacrificing yourself like that for me... You're so dumb. Literally the stupidest person ever, I say sobbing.
I let go of her and stand up.
— What now, you bitch? What are you going to do? I scream. Whoever you are, behind these games, Y/n and I are never going to fight against each other! So what are you going to do now, huh?
As I finish speaking, I see something on the wall.
If you don't want to play, leave at once. We won't do anything, won't harm you, but you can't take the money. You're going to leave this place empty handed, just like you came in, so you'd better think about it again.
— There's no point in thinking about it, I already know what I want, and it's Y/n, I say. I don't need your fucking money.
The door opens and I take Y/n's hand in mine.
— Ready? I say.
She nods and I smile at her.
It's time to live.
1 year later
Y/n's POV
— Sae! Come one, your mom and brother are waiting for us at the beach already! I say.
— Yes! I'm here, let's go.
We hold hands and I kiss her.
— Hey, maybe we could... you know... stay here in bed and-
— Sae, no. Now's not the time.
She sighs.
— Maybe later, I say giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Jeju Island. God, it's been a real roller coaster of emotions until we got here.
After the game, Sae and I went back to her place. It's a good thing that she had an apartment.
It was hard, really hard. It took us so long to find jobs and it was so stressful, but it was worth it. Sae and I opened a book store and it's going really well.
Right now, we're on Jeju Island with her family, and I couldn't be happier.
I guess that game really taught me something.
Money can fulfill your needs, but it cant buy you happiness. If I would've won the game, I'd have more things, maybe a bigger house with a pool and maybe I'd be able to travel to different countries 10 times a year, but I wouldn't have Sae.
And she's more important to me than anyone and anything else on this planet.
