Anu shivered with fear.
Kiran following her everywhere. She wanted to tell this to Anand.  But she had no confidence.  She knows Anand will react. If he makes a fight with Kiran that won’t be good for her and family.  In this era guys act so dangerously. 

Coming days she got engaged with college activities. So, she forgot about Kiran.  Still, he was sending his Good Morning and Good Night songs to her.  As usually she ignored it.
She has a pet in home.  Nichu named Kitten.  She loves it very much.  Every Morning she plays with Nichu and when she coming back from college the kitten will jump towards her.  And it will lick her hand and face with love.

Anand is not fond of pets.  He like to see them.  But won’t touch their body. She always scolds Anu about this. Nichu would sleep in the Couch. Its hair would fall in Couch.  Anand is allergic to it.  But Anu wouldn’t obey him.

That day too Nichu gave bye to Anu.  She played with it and kissed it and gone to college.

College festival was going on then.  Anu was performing folk dance and semi classical dance.

After her performance she entered the dressing room to change.  That time a girl came and called her name.

“Anamika, you have a gift.”

“Gift? Who gave it?

She asked.

“I don’t know.  A man gave this to me.  He had a mask on his face.”

The girl replied.

There was a slip on the cover.

“A memorable gift to Anamika Menon.  I know you will never forget this.”

She doubted it from Kiran.

“Why he is playing this hide and seek game?”

She asked herself angrily.

But she opened the gift box.

A white cloth covered with blood.

“Amma…”

Anu cried and thrown the box. Then she saw her Kitten’s dead body in it.  Nichu’s throat was slitted.

Anu became unconscious by seeing it.  At that time nobody was there in the dressing room.  Everyone was in the Auditorium to see the performances.

Half an hour Anu lied there like that.  At last one of her friends came and saw Anu lying on the floor.

“Anu , Anu…”

She called her and sprinkled water on her face.

Anu opened her eyes and started crying again.

“My Nichu…My Nichu..”

She explained everything to the friend.  But there was no gift box in that room.  No sign of blood or dead body of Nichu.

“Anu, that may be a prank by someone.  That won’t be your Nichu.”

Friend consoled Anu.

But Anu knows that she saw Nichu’s name tag in its neck.  Anu made that with beads and tied around Nichu’s neck by her own hand.  So, she will recognize it even in dark.

Anu called Kesav’s mother.  During day time Asok and Archana won’t be at home.  Kesav is busy with guiding Ben and Jessica to tourist places.

So, Anu called Subhadra.

“Ammamma, Did my Nichu come for lunch today?”

She asked.

“No, dear.  I searched everywhere.  Since morning it is missing. While I clean the fish it usually comes to me for the head and tail of fish.  Today it didn’t come.  I don’t know what happened.”
