The Note

As Ava walked into the apartment, she noticed a small piece of paper on the counter. She walked over and grabbed it, quickly reading the note which said, Hey babe, sorry I had to run. I tried to call but Gary said you were in a meeting, so I wrote you a note. The Legends called and said there was a time quake, so we're going to fix that. I'll be back soon, I love you. - Sara. Ava looked sad, missing her girlfriend. She wished that Sara didn't always have to leave, that her job at the Bureau could be less time consuming, that something wasn't always getting in the way. Yes, she loved Sara, but she didn't know how long she could do this.

She kicked off her shoes, grabbed a cold bottle of water, and sat down on the couch. She took her phone out, and saw a bunch of missed calls and texts. She figured it was nothing important, so she decided to look through her photos, wanting to see Sara since she already missed her so much, and she wasn't sure how long she would be gone. You would think that with a time machine Sara could just come back to the same moment she left, but it wasn't that easy. As she looked through her photos, she started to get a sick feeling. She decided to open her voicemails and listen to them, suspecting something went wrong on the mission. She clicked on the first one from Sara and let it play.

"Hey babe, it's me. Look, this is taking a little longer than expected. I don't know when I'll be back," Sara's voice said through the phone's speakers. There was a loud crash in the background, and Ava jumped a little. "Guys! Sorry about that Aves, I gotta run before we screw things up. Love you."

I wonder what the mission even was, Ava thought to herself. She had no control of what the Legends did sometimes, and it did scare her a little. If only she could help them with this mission so Sara can come home.... but, it was best for Ava to stay at the Bureau and help out that way. She clicked play on the next voicemail.

"Aves, look we uh.... We need your help. Please please please let me know if you get this. Just call me back? Or something. I'll try Gary too, maybe he can get you. I just...." Sara's voice trailed off. "I love you so much."

Ava's heart skipped a beat. What could the Legends need her help for? I mean they have a shapeshifter, a reformed assassin, a guy who dabbles in the dark arts, a criminal with a heat gun, a former nemesis's daughter who knows some magic, a former CEO with a special tech suit, totem girl, and a guy who turns into steel, there isn't much a clone can offer.

She went through the rest of the messages, and got worried. The Legends sounded like they were in a panic, which although they always screw things up for the better, this time it sounds serious. Like Legion of Doom serious. Ava just wanted to help them, help Sara, get home safe. She picked up the phone and dialed Gary.

"Hello Director Sharpe," Gary said, picking up on the first ring.

"Gary, I need your help," Ava said, instantly regretting calling him. Gary wasn't always a help....

"Of course! What can I do?" Gary asked, excited to be asked for help.

"Come over right now."

"Like, right this minute?"

"Yes Gary!"

"Okay, I'm coming Director Sharpe!"

Ava hung up and sat down, waiting for Gary. She wound up waiting about 15 minutes, and wondered what was taking him so long. After what seemed like forever, Gary finally knocked on the door.

"Gary! What took so long?"

"Sorry, I got stuck in traffic."

"Why didn't you just use your time courier?"

"Oh...." Gary said, looking down at his wrist. He had forgotten that he could have just used that, instead of driving over. "Well I didn't want to come in unannounced."

"Gary.... Never mind there's no time for me to yell at you. We need to go find the Legends," Ava said, a serious look on her face. Gary gasped.

"Are they okay? Are they alive?"

"I hope so Gary, I hope so."
