~The Man Cave~
It had been a long weekend for everyone. Henry had begrudgingly accepted a job helping Piper's basketball team after his little sister had pleaded and begged with him to take up the job. It was crap, but being the kind brother he was, he was going to try and get the Woodpeckers to the top of the league.
(y/n) had also had a particularly trying weekend. Ray and Schwoz had gone on a guys-only weekend camping trip, and her being a girl meant she was stuck in the Man Cave watching out for any major crimes that would need him to come back.
It had been absolute agony for her. It was rare he took any time off and if he did, it was normally with her and some other friends. She almost whimpered when he left her on Friday afternoon, Schwoz pulling him away so they could get driving as quickly as possible. The three days and four nights dragged by with nothing untoward happening, no crimes, just movies and ice cream, meaning she could only hope he was having a better time than she was.
And he was, sort of. It was nice to get away from it all and just be a normal guy on a relaxing break, but at the same time, it sucked that he couldn't bring (y/n) along.
Like her, Ray was so used to having her within an arm's reach, that the dreary nights in the tent with only Schwoz to keep him company were almost unbearable. All he could think about was going back to her and the next time he went to the lake, he'd bring her too, possibly on a long romantic break if he ever plucked up the courage to confess to her. It was the thought of returning to her embrace that combated his loneliness.
Monday afternoon eventually came around and (y/n) had been nervously awaiting her love's return, like a fair maiden anticipating her brave knight. Henry and Charlotte had reported into work to find her pacing around the room like a madwoman, and it had taken them ten minutes to get her to sit down. She couldn't help it, not having Ray around made her feel antsy and lonely. When he left, it was like he had taken a piece of her heart with him and she had kept a piece of his. Only together were they complete.
"Anything happening?" She asked the teens at the supercomputer, wanting to monitor their progress as a method of distraction.
"Not yet." Charlotte smiled at her, making the woman sigh in frustration. Her wait was soon over though as the tubes came down and two dirty, smelly, bearded men came down with a horde of camping gear. They had arrived.
"We're back!" Ray smiled at the kids and his best friend as he and Schwoz stepped out of the tubes. They looked rough like they had just spent nearly four days in the wild, which they had. (y/n)'s eyes lit up and Ray smiled at her and she squealed as she ran over to him. The young woman tackled the superhero in a huge, warm hug, making him drop the bags he was holding so he could return it. God, he'd missed her.
"Oh my god, I've missed you!" She giggled at him as they squeezed each other tight, causing Schowz, Henry and Charlotte to roll their eyes. It had only been like three days of being apart, sheesh.
"How was your camping trip?" The teen girl as Schwoz as Ray was preoccupied from burying his nose into his best friend's hair. She smelt so familiar, like fruity flowers and she felt like home.
"Oh, it was so much fun. I went swimming in Lake Swellview..." Schwoz recalled, making Ray chuckle bitterly as (y/n) let go, the smell of his unshowered body and wrinkled clothes finally getting to her.
"Yeah, which would've been great if you brought a swimsuit." He joked, shuddering slightly from both the gross memory and how (y/n) seemed to be studying him with sharp eyes.
"What's wrong with swimming naked?" The genius asked his friend, making (y/n) take her eyes off Ray for a second.
"You probably scare the fish." She joked, making the large man next to her laugh as he began to unpack his bag.
