"waaaa!!" you suddenly heard loud yell from yue. you slowly wince your eyes as you were trying to wake up from your slumber, you felt something soft yet firm from the touch immediately as you opened your eyes.

"h-huh?!" you panicked as your eyes met with circe's as he was looking down at you.

"i told your brother to shut up but the little brat yelled at the sight of you sleeping on my lap." circe calmly explains as he gave you a wide smile.

you couldn't process what just happened as you just plainly stared back at him.

"you seem comfortable there, huh?" he joked around as you finally springed up and put both of your arms crossed against your chest.

"what happened?!" you panicked and started looking around left to right.

"you fell asleep on top of me," he calmly said as he arched his back to stretch.

"waaa what did you do to my sister!!" yue yelled as he ran towards you grabbing your hand.

"are you okay?" yue asked with his eyes wide open.

"relax, i told you she just fell asleep," circe said once more.

"i would never hurt what's mine."

"circe, your words!" you scolded him as you felt heat over your face.

"your ears are red,"

"please shut it!"

"i'm hungry," you heard yue say as his stomach rumbled.

"ah.. i think i still have berries.. let me get them," you said as you rummaged your small bag.

"berries? you're feeding the kid berries?" circe butt in as the three of you were walking back to your village.

"well, i really don't have anything else to give him.."

"are you hungry too, circe?" you ask him.

"i haven't ate in a millennium, we really don't need human delicacies for consumption." circe explained as you just gave him a blank look and mouthed, "oh."

"but this kid can't just eat berries." he said as he suddenly pulled out a sword out of nowhere.

"w-what are you doing?" you panicked as you quickly ran towards yue.

"relax."

"i told you i won't hurt what's mine." with those words, you sighed out loud and asked him, "then what are you going to do with that?"

"i'm going to hunt." he smiled at you.

"a growing boy can't eat berries all the time,"

"hey! i don't feed him berries all the time! right, yue?" you turned to look at him but his eyes were fixated on circe's slender sword.

"actions deceive words, don't you think, darling?"

you could only pout your lips at him with furrowed eyebrows, but to your surprise, he suddenly inched closer to your face, making you gasp as held you by the waist.

"angry now?"

"n-no.."

"i thought so," he said while giving you smug smile as he took your hand and dragged you into the forest, yue running besides the both of you.

"let's make steak for your little brother, sweetheart."

"wow!!" yue jumped in excitement as he saw circe one hit a wild boar.

"you were so fast!" yue said once more as he circled around the boar.

"can we cook this?" he asked you.

"i'll have to slice it up into little pieces and i'll whip you both up something good to eat." circe said as raised his sword once more, "stand back, kiddo." he said as yue ran towards you.

with a quick slice of a second, it was already cut up into 4 neatly cut pieces, "amazing!" yue yelled out as circe snickered,

"heh, what can i say?" circe proudly laughs.

"i'll make you both something you'd never forget,"

"i'm excited!! right?" yue happily told circe as he grabbed your arm, "right," you said and smiled at him.

you've never seen him this joyous and energetic, every little pain you had in your chest didn't matter as long as yue was okay.

he was running around and the sight of him being able to enjoy life as a child made your heart warm.

"can i borrow your pot?" circe knelt down to yue's height and asked him.

"of course!" yue said as he hurried to the bags you brought.

"you look ambivalent," circe mouthed as he put his arms around your shoulder.

"he's having so much fun.. i wish i could see him grow up to be such a fine boy."

"..but i know i couldn't," you said and let out a sad chuckle.

there was an uneasy silence between the two of you, but you felt him pull you closer with his arms around you,

"..i'll take care of him."

"that puts me at ease.."
