Muhammad's POV
"Ina kwana mama(good morning mama)"I greeted my mum. Oh Allah how I miss this woman. Since after baba's death sadiq(my younger brother),Duaa and I have not been the same. One could feel his absence amongst us but mama being the strong lady that she is has tried all her best to make us feel happy again and I really appreciate her for that.He died when I was 20,Sadiq was 17 and Duaa was 14 then but it still feels like yesterday and it has forever been a sad topic to talk about so we don't bother talking about it.
"Muhammad,we need to go to the village(doma) to go and meet your uncle Baba sani" my mum said snapping me out of my thoughts. "Alright mum no problem". I said leaving her room to go and get my things ready. To be honest I don't think I can remember him I have been away for a really long time. Med school had been hectic so I hardly had time to check up on my extended family.
After what felt like hours I was done packing(ughhh how I hate packing).
"Muhammad are you in there"I heard Duaa asking "Yh, I'm coming just give me a minute". I opened the door and allowed her to enter. "Ya Muhammad,we are tired of you in this house, when are you getting married"she asked making me cough. "Calm down I'm just joking, but I need a sister in-law. Get me one"Duaa said as she stood up to leave the room. "By the way I'm here to tell you that it's time to leave".
Oh my god this girl is unbelievable she wants a sister in law, really???i haven't even found a girl I like so why will I start thinking about marriage now. I thought to myself. Shrugging the thoughts I carried my box and left the room. Meeting mama,Duaa and Sadiq by the car I made my presence noticed. "Mama I'm here, we can leave". I entered the driver's seat,Sadiq sat on the passenger's seat while Duaa and mama sat at the back. And we left the house. Its a three hours journey so it's not that long.
After almost an hour of silence,I heard Duaa from the back seat saying " mama don't you think it's high time for ya moh to get married,I'm so tired of him staying in the house. He is old enough" she said in a mocking tone. Making me choke on my spit. "Aii fah yaushe zaka kawo muna mata ya moh(ikr when are you bringing a wife for us ya moh)"that was Sadiq that was talking. Oh Allah my siblings are annoying,I have been trying to avoid this topic and now Duaa has decided to bring it back up just when I'm in front of mama making me glare at Duaa and Sadiq. "You guys should leave Muhammad alone when he is ready he will bring a wife home insha Allah" I let out a breath I never knew I was holding I felt so relieved that mama did not push further into the matter and that was how the conversation ended.
3hours later
I packed the car in front of Baba sani's house. The house looks more tattered compared to the last time I was here. I came out of the car and stressed my sore limbs from driving and made my way into the house not before I heard some girls that came to see who came in 'the expensive car' as they tagged the car saying " kaii Wanda ya tuka motan nan ba da kyau sosai(the driver of this car is so handsome)". "Laa yazo gindan Baba sani ne,Mai ya zo yi oho Allah(omg he came to Baba Sani's house, what is here to do? Only god knows)."
Approaching the door,I heard someone screaming, and another person insulting. My mum did Salam causing the person insulting to stop as shock was written all over her face and the person being flogged could care less as she used the opportunity to escape from the person beating her. She ran as if her life depended on it hitting me in the process.she didn't care to even say sorry. Judging from her size she should slightly be above 16 or so. Shrugging off about her,I went to meet mama talking to a woman who looked like she was in her mid forties I guess she is Baba sani's wife.
"Is this not Muhammad,Dan America sannu da zuwa,ya kuke ya gida(the boy from America, welcome)"she said referring to me. "Inna wuni aunty(good afternoon Anty)" i greeted her. She has a mat set for us to sit down and started a conversation with mama, minutes later I heard the adhaan being called marking it was time for zuhur prayer. "Anty salamatu pls I want to go to the mosque"I asked her. "Asmau,Asmau,Asmau"she shouted. Seconds later an average height girl around 17 came out. "Ina wuni"she greeted. "Lafiya qalau ya kike Asmau(how are you Asmau)that was mama that answered. I turned to look at Sadiq and Duaa they all looked bored. From the expression on their faces I knew they were all tired and bored. "Muhammad let Asmau lead you and Sadiq to the mosque" Anty salamatu said snapping me out of my thoughts. "Okay ,lets go" I said to Asmau and we left the house.
"Ya moh I'm soo tired and I can't wait to leave the house and secondly this place is soo hot. I can't wait to go back to Abuja". Sadiq said as we made our way to the mosque. Unlucky for you we are staying for 3days so you have to bare with it. And moreover we haven't seen our uncle in a really long time.i wonder where he is sef"I said to Sadiq. "Ughhhh, I can't wait for these three days to end. Maybe Baba sani has gone to the farm or market you know as usual". We didn't realize that we were in front of the mosque until the girl(I have forgotten her name)said that we have arrived. "Okay toh mungode(okay thank you) I told her and she turned to leave but the wink she gave me did not go unnoticed by either me or Sadiq. "Bro what was that, even a village girl knows how to toast a guy ahhh this is serious"Sadiq said while laughing. "In her mind now she will make you fall for her. Ya Moh it looks like you coming to see Baba sani is a luck because we are leaving with Asmau as a wife for you. I can't wait to tell mama and Duaa"Sadiq said before we proceeded to do our ablution. "First of all Sadiq I will not marry Asmau and secondly you better don't tell mama and Duaa anything"I said and making the conversation come to a stop. We entered the mosque and started our prayer.
