CHAPTER 4:

Maeve's pov:

Friday morning passed by like a breeze, one class after another, I barely paid attention to any of it, it's useless to pretend I care.

I hate today.

By the time I got home my mom had locked up the house so I had to use the spare key under the flower plant to get inside, I slept on the couch, I didn't feel like having to go all the way upstairs, wake everyone up and then get yelled at.

But I made sure to wake up before everyone, I made a pot of coffee, left a not I had to leave early for school and left.

My mom can be mad at me all she wants, today, I don't give a shit.

By the time lunch arrived I took a seat by the far end of the cafeteria and ate a bag of goldfish.

The funny thing I learnt after last year was that when you try to kill yourself you loose all your friends.

Fuck them.

I'm ok.

***

It's 4 pm, I texted Reid my address he should be here in a few minutes.

I try my best to not think too much about him.

He's just a bump in the road, one obstacle before you graduate.

"May!" I hear my mom yell from her office.

"Yes mom."

"Oh good you're home, I just wanted to let you know that Isabelle is having a sleepover tonight with one of her friends and they will be here in a few minutes."

Since Isabelle and I share a bedroom, my options are limited here, join them or sleep on the couch.

Breathe.

I put a smile on my face a graciously respond to my mother like a good daughter does "Yah ok, no problem, if that's the case I guess I'll have a sleepover at my friend's house, I don't want to have to be in their way." I try my best to sound sincere and make it seem like I actually have friends.

"Oh I'm sure they don't mind." They will, I know they will.

"Really mom, it's ok, I still have that English project to finish with one of them I'll just stay at their house."

"Ok, but do I know them, I don't want one of my daughters going to some strangers house for a school project."

"They're not a stranger, they are my friend, and we happen to have a project to work on." Liar, Reid Michaels is the farthest thing from my friend.

"Will her parents be there?" I like how she automatically assumes it's a girl's house.

"Yes."

"Alright, but don't think I forgot what happened yesterday May, I don't like how you always choose your friends over you family." Like I have any.
