Murder In The Attic

Chapter 5

Authors note* This is Colten. I know the story is going really slow but It's gonna pick up. I think their is gonna be a second book. You'll find out why later. Oh and I might have a soundtrack for the book after it's finished.
* Madelyn's POV
I had to get out of my house. Not only was Colten there but for some odd reason, Austin decided to show up to manipulate my parents into thinking he's such a good boyfriend and he was just out of town for a few days. I can't stand when he says that. It's his awful excuse every time and some how my parents are stupid enough to believe him. On the other hand they think Seth is a bad influence on me. I don't know how. It's kinda funny when they think Austin is sweet and Seth is the little devil when they're complete opposites. The only thing I'm really worried about is meeting Seth and being safe. I hate to say it but if it keeps me safe, I will act like nothing is wrong with Austin but I'll have to tell Seth.
I'm walking down the street with my bag on my shoulder and seeing the dim street lights around me. I live in a pretty big neighborhood so it's pretty safe.
I'm walking down on the rough sidewalk when I feel a presence behind me. I turn around and nothing's there. I knew I had to meet Seth quickly. I start to pick up my pace and walk faster. I hear something that was launched into the bushes. I jump and look over startled. I freeze. Nothing was there. Before I keep walking I decide to see what was in the bushes.
I look over the bush slowly and I see and arrow. Someone tried shooting me with a bow and arrow. There was a note tied to the end of it. It read "you can run but you can't hide" I look around the area to see if anyone may be watching me. No one. I start to run. I used to be in track so I still can run pretty fast. I see the street sign of where Seth and I were supposed to meet. I run faster. I felt as if someone was running behind me I go to turn around and look. Someone was chasing me. I couldn't see who it was. As I let out a blood crying scream, I turn around and I felt as if I ran into a truck.
I ran into somebody else. Two people were trying to hurt me. I felt somebody tying stuff around me. I'm not fully conscious but I screamed out "Seth! Seth! Help Me!" I was crying uncontrollably and I could smell somebody's minty breath in my now tear stained face.
I felt like I was left for dead. I went unconscious for a little bit but not very long because I was still on the cold, hard cement sidewalk. I heard two people talking. I couldn't make out who they were but I could here the conversation.
Person 1:"Why did you do that?, are you stupid?"
Person 2: " It needed to be done."
Person 1: "The plan was to scare her, not kill her!"
Person 2: "listen you're not in charge here, it didn't even hurt her that bad. she'll live.
Person 1: " But still, I don't want to go to prison."
Person 2: (laughs) Don't over exaggerate. She doesn't even know who we are. She can't accuse anybody If she doesn't know who they are.
Somebody is running toward the area I'm in. I can hear the footsteps.
Person 1: Lets get outta here, I heard someone.
I hear the footsteps getting louder and louder by the second. "Please someone help me!" I scream out.
"Maddie!" "Maddie!"
"Please don't hurt me!"
"It's Seth. I'm here. What happened?"
"Two people tried to kill me tonight" I said vaguely
"Two?" He asked
"Yeah." I said while sitting up
"Let's get outta here" I said. "Im fine I just want to be with you somewhere safe." "Can we go to your house?"
" Actually... I got kicked out tonight." "My parents were fed up with me so they just kicked me out."
I hugged him tightly. "How could they do that?"
"I don't know Madelyn." Seth said wiping the tears off of his cheek.
"How could someone try to hurt you?" He said
I look up to kiss him on the cheek.
"Well where are we gonna go?"
"We can go to the park."
I smile. "Were gonna sleep there?" I asked questioning him
"Sure." "No one will be there."
We walk to his car and get in. Were driving to the farthest park away from our town. I have my phone on me so I check it for the heck of it. I had 7 missed calls from my mom, 3 from Peyton, and 4 from Austin. I had text messages and two voicemails.
Peyton's missed call I listened to. " Hey sis, where did you go? Austin has a surprise for you and we were waiting for you." Call us soon or come back."
I let Seth listen to it. "You don't want to go back do you?"
"Of course not. Why would I want to?"
"Some people are weird like that" he said smiling
He gives me back my phone and I listen to Austin's voicemail. "Can you get back here already? We need to work this out. You don't want to be in trouble again do you? This time there will be a worse consequence. Love you. (Kissing sound) bye call me soon.
I let Seth listen to it. Tomorrow I'm gonna have to go back. I can't let Seth know though. I'll go to school then hang with Seth after school then I'll sneak off to my house. Or I'll go to Austin's. I won't like it considering he'll probably want to do stuff I'm not into.
I couldn't sleep the whole night. Neither could Seth. We just talked the whole night. He told me that he understood that if I had to go back to Austin for a cover up, that he would do the same thing if he were me. I just looked at the stars and seeing them shine brightly without a worry in the world. Why couldn't I be like that? Shine brightly and not have a worry. Life just doesn't work that way I guess.
It was time to get ready for school so I did the best I could for being at a park that entire night. I walk into school and go to my locker. I found a note and a picture of Seth and me at the wedding kissing, and the first time we kissed. The note read" In case you get in trouble I have this to help me make your life worse." "Kisses.
I can never get a break. I turn to see Austin and Peyton running towards me.
"Where were you last night?" They said in unison
"I was at Skylars." I said innocently
"Really?" Peyton said crossing her arms. "That's odd because we called Skylar and she said she hadn't seen you."
"That's because after you called I showed up there." I can lie pretty well.
"Whatever." She said rolling her eyes "everything's ready for the blowout party tomorrow." "I'll see you later. She turned and walked off and I was left by myself with Austin.
"You were not with Skylar."
"Yes I was."
"Cut the crap Madelyn. Skylar wasn't home last night."
"Yes she was." "I was there and I would know, we were in the attic." "Leave me alone, we'll talk later." I said kissing him on the lips. Oh it was so awful. I couldn't stand it anymore.
"You know what?" "I'm not going to see you later, or talk to you." "I'm done with you, and you childish, abusive games!" I've been seeing Seth for awhile now." I don't see how you couldn't have figured that out on your own. But you're too dumb to see reality.
A crowd has surrounded us now, Seth being there. I here oohs and cheering.
"Seth is such a better person than you, but got put with a such a horrible label I don't see how people couldn't see the real you." " I don't understand how I couldn't see the real, evil you."
I could see that I embarrassed him. Then he started yelling back at me.
"I don't see how you could try to play victim here." You're such a little whore." "You tried getting into my pants all of the time and when I told you no, you go crazy saying that I was a bad boyfriend because I never did anything fun." "You cheated on me all of the time, yet I forgave you ."
Nothing he was saying was true.
"You want to know the truth?" "I felt sorry for you." "Yes I was just using you." "So I could get to Your sister." "Why do you think Peyton and I have been closer to each other?" "I got her pregnant but you wouldn't have known it was my kid if I hadn't just told you!" He screamed.
I couldn't believe anything I was hearing. I had hot tears running down my face as I looked at Seth. Seth then stepped in.
" Austin everything you just said was so unrealistic."
" It's okay Seth, I believed Madelyn was a good girl to, until she tried to make me get her pregnant." "She'll probably do the same to you, you'll just want to have special time with her and all she wants to do is get pregnant by somebody so she can be hooked with them forever."
"Austin, get this straight, you are the one who almost forced her to do stuff with you that she didn't want to do." "She is an amazing person, and you said you didn't want anything to do with her, yet you knocked up Peyton." "Let me guess, Peyton told Colten it was his?"
By this time I was just standing back watching them argue. Then Austin threw a punch. They were fighting and everyone around them was cheering of who they wanted to win. I ran into the center trying to break up the fight when I got thrown in the middle and both of the boys punched me. Seth immediately apologized once he realized he punched me instead of Austin. He picked me up and helped me to the nurses office. Austin, however was praised for beating up two people.
Seth felt bad but I insisted I was fine. Although he needed to be checked out since he had a bloody nose and he hurt his ankle. The nurse said I was okay but I needed ice for my face to get the swelling down. The nurse wrapped Seth's ankle and helped his nose stop bleeding and allowed him to use the schools crutches for a few days.
I helped Seth out of the nurses office and throughout the day. After school was over, I let him ride home with me. It's easy to let him stay there because we have an attic that's pretty big and we can hang out there.
I get home and go upstairs to put my bag away. I then let Seth go to the attic with me but I had to help him. I didn't know we had some kind pull out bed up there but it works out perfectly. Mom and Dad will be out at work by the time we have to get ready for school.
"You should be good here right?"
He smiles "it's perfect."
"I'll be back okay? I'm gonna make some food so get situated." I said kissing him on the forehead.
I go downstairs when Peyton walks in pacing back and forth.
"Peyton!"
"You're pregnant? With Austin's baby?"
She broke down and started crying.
"I'm so sorry Madelyn. I was stupid and now everyone knows that it's not Colten's."
I hug her. Sometimes you can't say anything but a hug always helps.
"Why are you still nice to me?"
"Because I cannot stand Austin. He treated me poorly I'm just sad that it was him that you chose because your baby is going to have an abusive father."
"Abusive?" She questioned
"Yeah he abused me, physically and mentally. But I'm happy now because I love Seth."
"Love?" She said shocked.
"I didn't say I love Seth." I laugh
"Uh yeah you did." She giggled
"I did? Wow. Maybe I do love him and I was just not realizing it. All of my memories with Seth came through my head like a flowing river."
I love Seth. I smiled. "I love Seth."

I picked the song "Somebody that I used to know "because it was a song for Austin and Madelyn. I will be choosing a song every chapter or two to go along with my book and at the end it will be a recap that end up being my soundtrack for the book.
