It'd been about a week since Maryland had randomly appeared at Virginia's door; something considered a shocker when it was taken into account that neither had spoken to each other for well over 25 years.

Nor had they spoken to.. really any of the states. He wouldn't be surprised if one of them had gone into hibernation at this point. Maryland claims he just forgot, but chances are no one really wanted to talk to anybody. You can only be so "friendly" with each other for nearly 200 years before you need a break.

But, good ol' boredom must've gotten to Maryland, because he was suddenly on a mission to at least check in on everyone.

Weirdo.

But who was Virginia to resist? He was currently at a total of 0 friends and without any house pets, so to say he was lonely was a massive understatement. He could've gotten a job, sure, but nothing seemed.. fulfilling. Maybe he was destined to just do state stuff, but that was hard when no one would talk to each other.

Regardless. Currently they were on the look for New York, looking nowhere else than the city itself (though, Virginia honestly thought he'd live somewhere less populated. To hide from people.). They checked his old address, but the building had been torn down at some point, so that was obviously a dead end. From there they wandered street-to-street to look at apartment buildings, debating whether he seemed like he'd live there or not.

("How about those?"

"Mary, he's not rich."

"It looks like a normal apartment building!"

"Exactly.")

Okay, so what if they walked through New York City actively talking shit about the state. It's not like he'd know.

Eventually they realized that wandering aimlessly through one of the biggest cities in the nation to find someone they weren't even 100% sure lived there wasn't gonna cut it, and stopped at a local diner to talk.

"How funny would it be if he didn't even live in New York?" Was the first thing Maryland said upon being seated, picking up the menu he'd been given.

"Not funny at all. I did not walk for 3 hours to find out he's in Kansas or someth—" Virginia started complaining, only to be cut off by Maryland making a face.

"Gross."

"You know what I meant, don't make it weird." He rolled his eyes and began to look over the menu as well, debating what he wanted. Honestly, he only felt up to appetizers, but Maryland would probably insist he got something real to eat.

"Alright, well, assuming he lives in his own state. What do we know about how he lives?" Maryland started, and Virginia raised his eyebrows.

"He hates people and being near them. His old address is gone and I wouldn't be surprised if he burned the building down from being tired of his neighbors," Virginia listed, "I'm telling you Mary. If he was going to live anywhere in New York, it is not the place with this many people."

"Well, he used to live here, and this city didn't exactly become full of people overnight. He would've moved upstate ages ago, wouldn't he?" Maryland was looking at Virginia, but honestly it felt like he was staring straight through him, "And don't give me people change either, because you lived within five miles of where you did last time I saw you. None of us change."

Virginia opened his mouth to respond, shutting it again once he thought about Maryland's words.

"Alright, well, then there's another question. What name would he be going under? We can dig through some phone books, but we need a name, and I really doubt he's going to go by New York. That's just asking to get called."
