Part One of Charlotte Salvatore
Prologue
Lights shined against their skin and the body heat from the young people that surrounded the couple kept their bodies warm, causing for sweat to drip down their forehead and leaving their skin clammy. But sweat and obnoxious college students occasionally knocking their bodies into his was the last thing on his mind as he stared down lovingly at the young woman that danced in front of him. Her body moved to the music and just watching her was truly something magical; it was a sight he never thought he would get to see. To watch the woman, he loved so much to be happy to be with him. He did not know what love was until this woman came into his life.
May Adams had been in his life for almost twenty years now, after meeting her at the ripe age of eighteen. He of course, being a vampire and all, was technically one-hundred and thirty-five years old, though he only looked twenty-four and that was all that mattered to him. He could still remember her amber eyes and the way she flicked her long chestnut hair over her shoulder as she exited her high school building for what would be the last time. Damon had only returned to Mystic Falls in hopes he would somehow see Katherine; but May's eyes were met with his own, he knew that he did not need the vampire that turned him no longer. He needed her. May Adams.
He still felt this way, twenty years on with now both being vampires, ready to spend an eternity of love and compassion he never thought he would feel with anyone else. She was his world, his universe and everything more – and she felt the same.
"I never want to leave this place!" May screamed over the booming music, her wide grin brightening up the room as if it could get any brighter. "It's amazing!"
Damon nodded his head in agreement and continued to dance to the beat of the music with her in front of him, wrapping his arms around his waist as he carelessly moved his body with the horrible nightclub music. Despite the lack of taste regarding music choices, he never wanted to leave the club either. It provided him with a chance to forget about everything that affected him in a negative manner, like the relationship (or lack of) with his younger brother, or any of the pain that would come pouring back from the time he had with his humanity off. It made him feel like this was a night for opportunity and love, a night where he could just simply enjoy spending time with the love of his life.
But no matter how much he loved to dance and drink, especially with May (even though she was yet to consume a single alcoholic drink tonight), he figured that the two of them better return to reality at some point. Under different circumstances, perhaps if May had better mental health, he may have liked the idea of quite literally never leaving the small nightclub. But alas, May was struggling more than ever and often refused to tell Damon how she felt, which left him in a cloud of darkness he was unsure of how to get out. He knew it would not be healthy for her to remain in the club much longer, it would only be a matter of time before she began to kill for blood.
