Warm embrace

The warm night wraps me in a familiar embrace, lulling me to sleep with its false lullaby. Only to be ambushed by the nightmares that spring from the dark, born from the depths of my subconscious. My every fear, shapeless figures latching themselves onto me, dragging me down. Threatening to swallow me up until I suffocate from the weight of my pent-up emotions. I try to break through to the surface to draw in a desperate breath but another wave piles on. I sink slowly, the light fading to a faint glow. The warm night wraps me in its familiar embrace, lulling me to sleep.
